Hi

I have a 14.2hh 6 year old Welsh X Fell mix gelding. I have had him for a couple of years and would like to start doing more with him. I would really like to do showing, but people have said I cannot do it unless I have a horse that is pure bred/registered with a particular breed society. And obviously since I have a bit of a mix I will not be able to compete him, is this true?

If it is, can anyone suggest what I could do with him? Or if I can do showing what sort of classes would I be able to do with him?

Thanks for any help.

Of course you can still compete! His breeding should still allow him to compete in mixed/ part-bred mountain and moorland classes, as long as he was registered with one breed, but other than that you should be able to do any classes you want, as long as he's the right height etc. Unless I've missed something, I'm 99% sure of this, sorry if I'm wrong, but it will only affect your ability to do pure bred classes! Hope this helps :) and Good Luck with your showing careers!

you wouldn't be able to do county level showing but local shows often hold classes which I am sure you could enter.I would think apart from the fun showing like best turned out, family pony that kinds of thing there will also be other classes like part bred welsh classes.
