Showing question - rider's hair

The show season is approaching and I'm already nervous about taking my youngster out for the first time so want to at least make sure everything presentation wise will be perfect, even if our actual show will leave a lot to be desired for!

I have waist length hair and usually twist it round in a bun but because the bun is so big and fat it tends to tip my hat forward on to my face. Does anyone else with long hair struggle and have you found a successful hairstyle? The only way it's comfy to ride with is a plait but I'm 20 not 12 :rolleyes: suggestions welcome!
 
If you have really long hair you just lay it in the hairnet until it is filled and pretty, then put on the hairnet behind your ears and fasten with a bobby pin or two, then put your helm on over the top :) Some people tie their hair in a low pony at the base of the neck with their hair tucked into a hairnet and fastened under the pony scrunchie. Sort of hard to explain but here is a picture:

Could you plait it and then fold up the plait twice and fix it like that?

Get a plainish barrette with bun net off ebay.
Put your hair in a low pony tail, clip the barrette just above it. Then stuff your hair in.
I do this but with a bun donut over my ponytail, spread the hair out over donut, put a hair band over it, add clip and pull bun net over. But my hair isn't as long. Very quick to do.

Please dont go down the clips with bows route. It is incorrect for adults in the show ring! No scrunchies or bows!!!

The easiest way is to put your hair in a very low ponytail, plait it, wrap it round itself and secure with lots of hair nets. if you get the ponytail low enough it will fit I promise!

Okay I'll give it a go! If all else fails I might have to go get some chopped off :eek3:
 
This is an interesting thread. My hair is down to my waist as well. I tend to tie it in a low ponytail, twist it into the tightest bun I can manage, then hairnet over the top. I end up with three or four hair bands in before I force my hat onto the top and then just don't take it off for anything. Otherwise the whole lot just explodes. Also tends to make your scalp hurt, so I would love to find a better solution!
 
I'm with Conniegirl, I also have long hair, my method is hair elastic, to create low pony tail, plait low pony tail, wrap plait round itself, put first net round and put hair elastic round plait/bun, put second net over all and head, then put another elastic round bun. Works well, but needs a bit of practice. Any one over 12 shouldn't have bows or scrunchies :).

If its blonde and you have it chopped can I have it, I have such short hair I look like a man when riding, so have been trying to make a false bun of hair I can stick to the back of my head so I least look a bit like a woman when showing :(

It is blonde yes!! Please take it, it's a nightmare. If I don't brush it twice a day it turns into a massive matted dreadlocked birdnesty nightmare :rolleyes:

Yes, fully agree with this. Please no show bows! Just use two or three hairnets if necessary.
 
My hair is almost waist length but very thin. I do the low pony tail, plait, wind round itself version. I hate hair nets so I have a clip with a net on but without the bow on the clip. Lots of bands and pins later you get it all out of the way!
 
I think a lot depends on the thickness of the hair :D Mine is thick and needs hair nets (always plural) to keep the plait/bun in place, clips always either spring open or refuse to shut in the first place.

Mine was like that too when waist length. I had it cut to between shoulder and bra strap length and now wonder why I didn't do it years ago!

I used to do the low pony tail, then put hair into a net, elastic over the end, then fold in half (sometimes twice) and add another elastic

ps, mine was not thick, but there was a lot of hair, but it's saving grace is its very straight and smooth!
 
Mine is long enough to sit on. I put it in a low pony tail then plait the ponytail down, and band the bottom, then I wind the plait round itself and tuck in the end before securing it with two strong bands. I aim for the bun to be a bit long and thin rather than round as I can't get my hat on if it is round. I put a net over the top, then my hat. This is fine with my skull cap but does tend to tip my velvet hat a bit. Having my hat low over my eyes makes me look up though!
 
Put the hair net over your head then roll your hair into the net, then put a plaiting band around it in a very low bun.

Then put on the lovely net and bow that is shown in an earlier post.

Or you could get yourself a 'no knot' hairnet, you can get all your hair out of the way with it.

I know your pain I used to have very long hair in my younger days but have now opted for man hair for an easier life, but as you can see it has its downfalls. Thanks for the offer of taking off your hands, I have not ruled this out yet so dont go anywhere!
 
To help stop it pulling, I plait one or two crossovers (if you know what I mean!) then put a hairband on, pop a hairnet on and fold the hair in to the net then put another net over the whole thing. I sometimes find if I put a band over the bundle at the nape of my neck, it pulls hairnet back and hair eventually escapes. I have found that it is better using multiple nets than bands.
