I don't believe it, I have just typed all this up once and then my big-boss came in and I had to escape off the screen! so here we go again...

I have an unregistered 14.1 Welsh D mare who I would like to start showing. I have found a local club who hold small shows each month. For the first one I am just going to enter a couple of in-hand classes as she is quite young and I'm not sure how much she has done, also I’m an idiot at things like this and get really nervous. I then hope to start doing some ridden classes, she would make a cracking WHP but I don't want to jump straight away (look, I told you I am a wuss!), they do have an unregistered or part-bred M&M class but I wondered if I could show her as a SHP? I know that she would need to be plaited for this but this class would be before the M&M so I thought that I would probably have time to let the plaits out if I did want to enter both.

My gut reaction would be no, as a welsh D (if she is of the usual build) would definitely look out of place with the SHPs who would be a lot finer than her. Would need to see a pic before I could definitely comment though! Saying that you can get away with a load of things at local level, as long as its a fairly small show?

Hiya

Another no to SHP if she's a purebred welsh D, and a big thick mane would be hard to plait anyway.

Why don't you do M&M annd maybe a minimus or clear round? Could also do things like equitation or green horse?

The other thing is I don't know anything about SHP classes but if she sweats under the saddle you might get a bit stuck for sorting her out before in-hand later on.

Thank you, I just wasn't sure. I think i'm going to try the first week in hand and then I think the next month try ridden M&M and bite the bullet and go for WHP.
