I have a 14.3 coloured mare of unknown breeding but thought to be out of sec D mare. Can i enter the following class ????
769 - Ridden Skewbald & Piebald - BSPA RIHS, Four years old and over, of traditional or native types, not exceeding 153cms.
Is she the right type ? size ? etc ?
She is the one in my sig. Thanks in advance for any info??

Ok she is not hairy and will be plaited so how about this? 770 - Ridden Skewbald & Piebald - BSPA RIHS, Four years old and over, not exceeding 153cms (Plaited).

I see you are in Exeter! These classes are for Devon County but i have no idea if she is what they are looking for? She does well in local coloured classes. Would every one be in a double bridle? Is she ok for size? Sorry about my ignorance.

shes really nice, also working hunter comp horse etc, if you have any chaps/bspa shows near you there would be a lot of classes you could do.

ahhh im missing DC this year due to ill horse and my lorry being a month late back! not had a chance to compete this year!

went last year with the horse in the piccie and the big lad in the album in my profile.. he came 6th.

I'd say the 2nd class - plaited. Most are usually in double bridles however last year there were one or two that weren't, and they did well! Good Luck and I'll keep an eye out for you as I'll be there too!! :)

In Devon there are some very experienced showing people
Ann Sizmur and Debbie Willing to name two
I assume there are web sites for BSPA and CHAPS perhaps go on to them to get some advise.
Personally I would try some local shows before venturing to Devon County as most of the professionals will compete and it is often a rugby scrum and very buzzy!! Entries close early April
The cost of entry is also stupid.
Devon has probably one of the most expensive entries on the circuit and I compete all over the country,
Hunter classes with RIHS tickets are £38.50 or £39.50 entry fee 1st prize is £42!

entries close 31st of march and can be done on line. the coloured classes are fairley chilled and as the 1st class of the day is at 8am (in hand) its not to buzzy and if your planing on ding a ridden class its a great way to warm up and get horses used to the ring etc.

also worth noting that you DO NOT have to be a member of bspa/chaps to enter, you only need this if you were to get placed and be able to accept your rihs qualification.

She is lovely!
So yes go for it (the plaited one!)

She looks a lovely sort for working hunter, or small hunter classes too as others have said.

BUt yes they are generally in a double/pelham/rugby pelham with 2 reins..... if she is young a nice pelham/rugby would be a good option (I use a rugby with a french link and am yet to find a horse that doesn't go well in it!) as it looks the part but isnt two bits in the mouth which some horses take a while to get used to!

If you are willing to spend the money on entries etc and want to go have a good time at higher level GO for it! :)

and then post lots of piccies!
