Lottie is back in (semi) full work but no jumping. I want to do some veteran showing classes with her this summer, I have some qualifiers for something national near me (sorry, never been in to showing so no idea what, but it sounds interesting!).

I have recently put her in a treeless saddle as I've been through loads of tree'd ones properly fitted and she brushes and stumbles in them, yet bareback she is happy and moves freely, as she does in the treeless. My back lady thinks it's just her preference for a softer saddle as she gets old. Nothing wrong with her back but their skin and muscles get more sensitive apparently, she is 31 this spring!

Will I be able to show her in the treeless? She misbehaves a little at shows (think 3 year old just backed!) so I don't expect to get very far but she would love to join in. Will I be allowed to use it and will I get penalised?

I used to show my veteran in a black thorogood synthetic, the high wither version was the only saddle that would remotely fit. Like your horse, he was prone to bad behaviour, so I figured it would hardly matter! He would either win or come last (or be asked to leave the ring......) The saddle didn;t seem to make a jot of difference.

I guess it depends on the level - if you were planning on qualifying fo Olympia then maybe a treeless wouldn't be appropriate.

Thanks.

She's impeccably mannered in the menage, it's just excitement, I'm afraid I've let her get away with more as she's got older! Not enough to disturb other competitors generally!! I think I'll take her to the 1st one and see what heppens!

I know that feeling. Glad to hear she is still working at 31! Mine is 30, and taking it easy......we bounce around the local lanes occasionally these days.

Good luck, have fun!

Someone I know who shows their veteran says she loves the veteran class because it has the worst behaved horses in it!

I've never seen a treeless saddle in the show ring, but if it's just local level and only for fun then it's not worth buying a new saddle just for that.

Will I be allowed to use it and will I get penalised?

Allowed to use it - yes

Penalised - Probably
