Dont do photo shows any more.

The judges arent usually photographers so dont know how a good photo should be taken i.e. the lighting, composition etc.

So when you have a good photo of your horse, taken time to compose and make sure the photo is not over or underexposed and then someone with a photo not even taken close up so you cannot see whats even going on wins its a joke.

If you are a photo judge you need to be able to first of all know about horses and secondly know about photography.
 
I would do but most of the time its photo with the most like win. And the people that bug there friends to like it win. If you could send me a link to one's were the judge picks the best picture then i would deffiantly eneter:)
 
I use Photo-shows.co.uk the classes arnt exactly based around photography with classes such as best rescue, summer theme, best dressage rider or inhand class all to name but a few. The classes are sponsored and judged by individuals and the rosettes and prizes are fabulous. My mare has been out of action for most of this season with a mystery lameness and doing these comps meant we still had a means of doing some kind of competition each time our rosettes arrives i would go pop them on her not only did she think it was the easiest bit of work in her life but it realy lifted her spirits from being left behind when i took my other horse to competitions. IMO there realy worth looking into
 
I've started doing them this summer as I don't have transport and there are very few shows around that I can hack to. Hattie has placed very well and even came champion in one show (we got a massive rosette and a trophy!).
As long as you send a clear photo and you are well presented (no muddy horses unless it's a muddiest pony class!) with good turnout, then you are good to go! :)

The ones I enter aren't judged on the actual photo but more the class - i.e. M&M class judged on the horse not the photo. i think you got the wrong end of the stick hehe
 
I did them last month as a bit of a laugh and ended up Champion of the one I did with my horse who is now a field companion due to a racing injury.

I then sponsored a class this month and was hte judge of the Native pony class. If you do enter then, for most classes, it is easier to have a side on shot of your horse or pony rather than diagonally or looking down on a shetland.

The ones I entered were meant to be photo competitions with horses as the subject. So I think we are talking about different things here - yes!:D:
