Hi everyone

I have recently started riding a young Welsh Sec D for a woman. She is a little sweet heart and I think she could go far.

I want to start showing her in some M&M/Welsh classes. However she has a wall eye. Would this be marked down by the judge at all?

Also she has lost most of her mane. A combination of it beaing hacked off by a horrible dealer and she rubbed out what had grown back last year because of the flies. Will this be frowned upon? And any tips for getting it to grow back?

Thanks

Emily

I competed against a Sec D with wall eye last year and it was placed :) The mane will let you down though - how bad is it? If you can level it out as much as possible so it looks like it was pulled short it should be ok. There are various creams available to promote hair regrowth but as I've never used one I don't know which is best.

I'm glad to hear that the cob got placed. Mines got 1 1/2 blue eyes and is a lightweight piebald cob x with unusual markings (grey spots within a black patch). Her eyes don't half look different to other horses!

My new mares mane has a bit of a bald patch, think it was due to her rug or martingale rubbing. However, after having a look at some of the threads on here, I've heard a lot about Megatek. It is supposed to be very good at growing hair back. I ordered a bottle the other, so hopefully should be here soon!

I believe that a wall eye would be considered undesirable in a welsh D. But if yours is coloured it must be a cross, I think they are acceptable on coloured. Have you thought about entering Coloured classes? also if your horse is a cross then I think it should be plaited and shown as a part bred.

Sorry just realised it isn't the OP that has the coloured.....:

my experience is that some judges don't mind and some really do not like wall eyes. Traditionally it was classed as a big fault but not so bad nowadays. I think it will just be a case of trying and see what happens while expecting there to be big differences between judges. After all it is their opinion

Thanks for the replies! :)

Think we'll try some local stuff and see what opinions we get. I personally think it adds to her. Shes so striking! will try get some pics on here of her :)

And yes she is a black Welsh. Sheis fully papered etc.

off to look for that magatek too :p

Thanks guys

My daughter's piebald cob mare has 2 blue eyes and she is a prolific winner. She has won at County level in workers and coloured classes and RC pony and was always highly placed at the BSPA Championship shows - even achieving qualification for the Champion of Champions final. The judges have without exception loved her - she does move beautifully and her eyes have clearly never got her marked down.
