I'm taking my two year old section A filly to her first show of the season this weekend. But how much should she be trimmed up? ie whiskers, tail length, feathers etc. ?

Thanks

Dont trim anything unless her tail is really really long or her mane needs a bit of a tidy up to look neat.

Does she carry it up when trotting? I only ask because my section a does, so have to be careful not to take to much off or it looks really short!
Take a bit off the end, just make sure its not "banged" eg really obvious straight line.

Good point! I'm far more used to arabs, who obviously carry their's really high, so my other horses have their tails kept wrapped as they drag on the ground and hers has been kept wrapped too, as it's flaxen and was getting destroyed by mud, hence why it is so long and she's only just two! I'll be very careful cutting it. Do you tend to plait them the night before so they go all frizzy and look fuller or not? we do with the arabs, but not sure if this is also the case for section A's?

Bot knife the end if it needs it, A lot of people thin the tops of their tails as they are usually thick and thin on the end. I just bandage the night before a show. My A does hold his tail slightly but they don't go over board like arabs :p :D
As Gimley has such a long thick mane I use a thinning comb to thin it then bot knife it to get a nice length and shape. DO NOT touch whiskers but DO trim beards :p
Have fun :D thats what its all about xxx

Gimley my 6 yr old welsh A now doing lead rein with my daughter :)
