Showing tips - Getting bay's legs black

Hi Everyone!

I am showing my little bay mare inhand at a big show in a few months time and was wondering how you guys get your bay's legs as black as possible as that's what they want apparently. lol

Her legs are pretty black as it is but they have some browning on the inside.

Do I dye them? What do you guys use?

We use Supreme products black cream stuff, apply it with a sponge,

Most of the showing product manufacturers have black make up which can be applied using a little water and dabbing the sponge into the make up before wiping it on the legs. There are also sprays that can be used. Remember that a little goes a long way with horse make up!

Okay, maybe I should be more clear...

I live in South Africa, as far as I know "horse makeup" doesn't exist here, I've certainly never seen any.

Any "home remedies"???

Thanks for the advice though, I'll definitely have a good look around and see if I can find any of the products you suggested.

What about something like black hairspray type stuff? Like the stuff you use for costume parties that just washes out?

One of our south african members of The Show Ring website buys a lot of stuff in the UK. You need to try things out on small areas, just in case there is a reaction if you buy something non horsey. This lady in Ireland will send all over the world.
