How often do you have lessons?

Having just got back from a show today - I love getting the horse ready - bathing, tack cleaning etc but once I get in the ring I do find it really quite boring - I dislike the waiting around (especially if I have done my show early and we did badly

) and begin to seriously question why I do it - until the next time I get carried away with the entry form.

I was wondering what the general opinion on showing is?

I have to say I think its boring! My friend competes in showing every weekend, I really don't see the appeal!

Give me jumping competition anyday!

I used to love showing but now I am wanting to do other things, as It is the only thing I have done but I want to event my boy, i find it rather a farse sometimes with some judges etc and would rather do something my horse enjoys now.

I do enjoy showing but I much prefer jumping now.

i like it, but dats only because im still in ponies so there is no proffessionalls in it! and i usually only do workers...

not 2 offend anyone, but imho i think that sumtimes in horse showing its all to do with your name...

I don't have a horse, but I have teken horses showing before. In general I found it good fun, espeshially getting poo stains out of a greys hocks when you spent the day before making him gleam!! And trying to get a rubbed tail half decent

Tack clenaing the night before was a bit hectic but it was done in the end and al in all I enjoyed it!

I couldn't ever do showing - did it once, almost fell asleep

.

It is way too slow and boring for someone as lively and chirpy as myself. "Tedious" is the word I'd use to describe showing. I love showjumping, XC and team penning - fast sports with a clear winner and a clear loser, suit me perfectly.

I used to really enjoy it but eventually got fed up with it being so subjective and started to do the dressage thing more seriously.

Have to say I've had a lot more fun and I know what time I'm going home!

Just starting showing next weekend on Ali, but with Castle I was a regular on the hunting field last season, I've also done a bit of dressage, showjumping, and hunter trialling with him. I really do enjoy the preparation before shows (bathing, grooming, plaiting, tack cleaning etc.), although I'm a bit of a perfectionist so it takes me quite a while to get everything absolutely perfect! From hunting experience, standing around for ages is quite annoying, and with Ali I'm not looking forward to it too much...

I think it's just a bit of fun, and next weekend I'm not aiming to win at all, couldn't care less if I come last tbh! I'll be over the moon if Ali behaves reasonably well and we do a nice little show

I tried showing again a couple of years ago after a long lay off doing other more exciting things! Only did it cos I couldnt do anything else, had bought a new box and, damn it, I was going to use it!!! Confirmed that I hated showing!!!! Totally boring! And I never really know what the judge is looking for! Most likely a big bribe!!

I loathe it! So dull and it's all based on the opinion of some old bloke who usually can't see past the end of his nose! When I got told that my fit pony wasn't fat enough for the show ring, I never went again (what beat me had to heave its way round, was breathless by the end of its show as it was so overweight

).

Agree with Tia, at least if you knock a poll or have a stop at a fence when SJing/XC, you know where you stand.

I love the getting ready , turning a dirty ponio in the field into a shining well groomed ponio .

I am I admit a perfectionist

We have been showing missy this year for those of you that dont know in the inhand classes, its more or less to do something with her while she grows and teach her manners and the usual things of getting her used to crowds and all the other things that she will meet with in later life .

I find getting all ready quite stressful, Flash just can't keep clean and will not stand still to be plaited, but I love looking at the end result. I find showing quite boring to be honest, end up standing around so long I just switch off

I've done a bit of showing lately, just for fun, but have to say I do find the waiting around a boring.

Give me dressage anytime - as someone else said, you know what time you need to get there and you know what time you will get home! I drives me mad with showjumping and showing etc, when it is just guess work as to what is happening when!
