Those of you that show (but on a budget) where do you get your clothes from. I'm scouring ebay for a waistcoat (plus shirt, tie, even a tweed if poss.) for in-hand showing (M&M) but most stuff on there is for small people. I'm a size 16 with a rather ample chest (!), the Mears wool waistcoats are beautiful but they retail at £60 in my local tack shop. Does anyone have any hidden gems that they source showing clothing from.

Cheers

:)

Hmm...I get most of my showing stuff off Ebay...I believe Shires do showing waistcoats that are quite reasonable...

if you need a tweed, I have a size 16 brand new Equetech In Vent tweed for sale ;) PM me if interested!!

Shirt and tie........ tesco!!! :)

For a pale yellow shirt take one white, short sleeved shirt (mens if necessary, I find them comfier!) and put in washing machine with 1 or 2 yellow dusters depending upon how yellow you would like said shirt.
Do a full cycle........... take out and dry separate! :)

Or just buy a yellow shirt (although they often end up rather BRIGHT yellow! :) )

Tie, can get from pretty much anywhere does not have to come from an equine shop! Plain red is a quite a commonly used colour for M&M showing in hand.......... what colour waist coat are you looking for and what colour is your horse?

Also, Ebay is great but don't be too specific in your search, just put like : waistcoat size 16 rahter than in hand waistcoat size 16 etc :)

I also like the website : www.bluepony.co.uk for stuff, but its rather limited on show stuff but may help! :)

Yep, I'm all for getting the shirt and tie etc. from tesco etc, that's not a problem. In the past I have been known to in-hand show in a plain black jumper. However ponio is going to be going to qualifiers, nothing too fancy just smaller shows but still affiliated with PUK etc. And since he's my own boy now I don't want to look like a scruffy mess. Pony is a black fell pony and I was considering red but I'm not sure if that's a bit too OTT for an M&M class. I think I'd prefer yellow or mustard or something.

No no, red with a black horse looks really nice!!!! Go for the red! :)

They were just some examples, I will try to find some more jackets for you.......

if he is black then trousers should be pale, preferably cream or soemthing (I have a pair of cream cords I bought from Sainsbury's! :) Can you tell I am a student?! :) )

Then a greeny coloured jacket would look better I think................. with a red waistcoat and tie...... but gloves and cane should be brown! :)

Yep, I have cream trousers already so that's sorted. I'll think about the red, I was considering it but then didn't know if it was a bit too "flash" for an M&M class. Do you think I'd wear a yellow shirt with a red waistcoat or white?

No just wear very pale yellow (and i don't mean canary, I mean just off white to yellow shirt) Dublin horsewear do one which is really pale that i have and its vented so lovely! :)

If you wanted, red waistcoat and a navy and red tie or something would look smart but slightly dulled down.......

I just know most of hte people I know who show M and M in hand actually don't wear a show jacket and just wear a full length sleeved shirt and a red waistcoat and tie. Or wear a show jacket and tie and no waistcoat........ so tbh I think that it won't make a huge difference, unless u opt for the jacket and get way too hot on the day..... in which case u wud want a waistcoat! :)

Sorry yes, my plan was to just wear a waistcoat and tie for in-hand to avoid me having to buy a tweed jsut yet (unless I find one that's good value!). So the waistcoat would be fully on show. Then there's the whole hat issue to think about!!

well how old is your horse?
If well behaved etc then a flat hat can be worn, or just a normal riding hat/beagler.

Ok, just checked on the fell pony society website,

the only inhand waistcoats seem to be green, mustard yellow or red...... so any i think would be fine! but often the tie is a different colour so e.g. green waistcoat with red tie, or green waistcaot with yellow tie etc.

also most are wearing a normal riding hat, so I assume even in affiliated classes they will say this is acceptable so I don't think hat is a problem! :)

That's a good idea, I might spend some time googling and look for pictures of other people showing M&Ms and copy them. Cheers. :)
