So giant horsey and I do a bit of dressage but with his last owner he was predominantly a show horse, doing side saddle and various hunter classes. People at the yard tell me I should do some showing with him once the season gets going as he's going really nicely at the moment, and even the dressage judges seem to agree by putting "attractive horse" on my reports (thanks but that doesnt help with my score!) so perhaps we might give it a try.
However I have never shown anything in my life, let alone a horse. I would have no idea what to wear, what the judges would be looking for, where to go to compete, what a class would involve.....can anyone give me a quick rundown on showing in a nutshell?
We are based in North Warwickshire/West Midlands (nr Solihull and Warwick) so if anyone knows of any good shows to start at (I cant seem to find much online apart from the big county shows) that would be brilliant. FYI he is a 17.3 ISH, 14 years old and generally has 3 nice paces (when he's feeling relaxed otherwise he resembles a giraffe on springs). We do a bit of jumping in trot but he gets excited when cantering towards anything related to a pole so for the sake of our dressage we have only been trotting over jumps at the moment.
