I'm going to be taking my two year old to a show in a little while, he is now happy to have his bridle on be lead from his bridle, walk and trot so hes more or less prepared but in a youngstock class should i plait him up? Also i dont really know what colour browband to get, should i just use the plain one which comes with the show bridle or a velvet one? He is a chesnut quite big around 16hh so i dont want anything too babyish his bridle is black with gold/brass coloured stiching and buckles also he has a loose ring snaffle with a copper lozenge is that ok for showing? Thanks

The coloured browband depends on his type - is he a hunter type or a more showy type?

Yes he should be plaited.

Bridle sounds like a standard inhand bridle which is fine, bit is fine so long as he is happy with it.

Ditto crazymares statements!

If he is a showy not hunter type, chestnuts look gorgeous in green, white and gold velvet browbands!!! very smart!

(and I dont even ride chestnuts! just the ones I see in those colours make me go WOW!)

If hunter type, nice plain tack all the way!

yup Coloured brwobands are for the likes of show pony, intermediate SRT, Lead reins riding horse hacks

where as hunters natives and cobs are plain browbands

My chestnut boy looked awful in the "winning" colours he has a green and navy BB!
