Hi, so I have finally brought my new horse which I am so happy with :D:D:D he is a very gentle and sweet natured dutch warmblood who does anything he is asked and is standing at 16.3

So I was wondering if I could have any advice and if someone could tell me if he has a good chance at doing showing as I would really like to get into it but would just like someone to tell me whether they think he is the right kind of horse to do it.

If so, what kind of classes should we do and any recommendations for different tack?
I will put some images from my pony club showing show yesterday where we did very well. (first in riding club horse and 3rd in working hunter horse)
Would really appreciate any advice!

Well done at the show, he looks a sweet boy and you should have lots of fun with him.

I would get a bridle with a thicker plain noseband to enhance his head and check the fit of the one you are using as the bit looks as if it may be very low in his mouth, the cheekpieces are appearing to move about in the photos.
You need some long boots or gaiters and a tweed jacket, you should wear gloves and have your hair tidy in a net, try dropping your stirrups a couple of holes if you can.

As for classes he can do working hunters/ RC horse and flat hunter classes at local level, he will look better once he has muscled up a bit more but otherwise is fairly well turned out and has a lovely shiny coat.

Thanks so much for helping, I will defo look into getting a thicker nose band and will alter the fit of the bridle/bit. I have some long boots but read online that for under 16's you have to wear short brown ones (I am 15) I also have a tweed jacket but it was very hot and judge said we didn't have to wear them. I will practice making my hair tidier as am not very good with hair (or plaiting my horses mane looked very bad but I can practice and hopefully it will get better) I will also defo try dropping my stirrups but unfortunately am struggelling with his very bouncy trot and have very short legs for my height. He is very unfit but hopefully with a bit of workwill get fitter. Thanks so much for the help I will defo work on improving now xxxxxx
 
If you are riding a horse you always wear long boots in the show ring whatever your age, you will be far more comfortable and it will probably help you stay with him in trot.
 
Well done lovely horse I really like him his my favourite colour too, agree with be positive about the bridle and boots and gloves and things but you only pick these things get up by doing it and asking advice, some shows have foreign breed classes I have Arabs so I often do them and see plenty of warmbloods so it's another class you can do.
 
When i had lost my bottle riding i would have my stirrups up my chin cause i felt more secure in the saddle, but its a false sense of security. Next time you ride, take them down just one hole and see how you go - its an adjustment like any other. If he is the calm sort which he looks like he is, start / finish each ride with no stirrups just to get your body used to stretching those legs down. Just in walk, until you feel able to do more. I still can't sit to my 17hh trot in sit, only if he is going really slow and collected.

Thank you will definetly have to try that next time I ride! yes he is a very calm and good boy and will not mind about having no stirrups thanks so much for the help x
