Promised a follow up to today so here it is!

After taking Ally xc schooling last week and her loving it I entered her for the eventers challenge at Vale View. I'm a die hard showjumper and had only been xc schooling once and never competed, so didn't really know what to expect.

Had a bit of a shock on arriving...I knew there was going to be a water jump, and had taken Al through water before with no problems, but didn't account for there being jumping in and out of deep-ish water. Also nearly had a heart attack walking the course when I saw the bounce of steps up...I'd NEVER done this before. They probably weren't that big in hindsight, but shall we say I tried to go up them on foot and couldn't...although only being 5'4 probably didn't help.

...Spent the majority of the warmup getting increasingly annoyed at having to wear a body protector and feeling a bit naked without my stretchy show jacket & excessively blingy boots...

SJ phase was a bit disappointing. Ally and I normally compete 1m20+ and she's the type of horse that doesn't really get airborne until the fences get to this height. Not wanting to overface myself xc I had entered the 95cm class so there just wasn't enough fence there to get her thinking. Was an ok rhythmical round though I just don't think either of us respected the fences enough so we had 2 poles.

Next there was an indoor xc phase with rustic planks and poles against the clock which Ally made light work of (started to pick her feet up when we went into jump off mode!) Then proper xc...motored up the bounce of steps (thank god), pinged the corner & took fairly meaty dogkennelthing at an angle, somehow got over the skinny gate thing on a steep downhill slope as well. Couldn't believe I was still alive by this point.

It went into the dark at this point, and Al spooked a bit at the shadow but popped the series of little rolltops and dogleg of brushes great. (Oh my god I just called an xc fence 'little'...what's going on) Bit hesitant going into the water but was fine about it and jumped out over the rolltop great :)

Ally's now back home safe if looking a bit shellshocked!

Friday I took my big girl Doris in the yard show as she hadn't been out in a while. She was going to do the Hickstead qual yesterday but forgot to enter...So did the last class of the day the 95cms and won it out of a very quick jump off so v pleased with her! That's still every show since her holiday last summer she has gone clear at! & for around 17hh she made the same turns as the ponies...so much love for Doris! Hint hint she will probably be for sale after Scope...

Hopefully these pictures have worked! Next week Doris and I are off to some Scope qualifiers so may be another report due soon!
