Showjumper to Showing - HELP!

Hi All,

To give my horse a little breather before Scope I am looking to take him to do some WH classes (just locally) at Wakes End Farm. However, I would also like to do a ridden showing class as well. He has done dressage to Novice level and is a lovely sort so I know that he shouldn't embarrass himself - however I am unsure what class he would go in and what tack etc I would need.

Thanks CundleGreen - it is unaffiliated and just as a bit of fun. I doubt he would have enough bone to be a Hunter. No sports horse class unfortunately. I'm not sure he would 'go' as they want in the WH (he's quite finely tuned and probably won't be forward enough) but i'm not too worried, it's good for him to see some rustic fences.

Do you think he would be better in the Ridden Hunter or the Riding Horse?
 
I'm a newbie to showing but wanted to give you an internet *wave* as I'm planning on doing the WH class at Wakes End too !!

Can't quite tell from the pics as tbh he looks like he could do either class really. In some pics he looks hunter, in others riding horse. Maybe depends on what tack you have !

Mine isn't that 'boney' but is more suited to hunter classes imo. If yours looks lighter in the flesh, and is a pretty type, then perhaps the riding horse is better - coloured browband if so. The riding horses that I've seen seem to be more blood x types.

If the timings work out, try both classes! I ended up in riding horse last weekend with my hunter tack and turnout. Not suited really but it was all about the experience :) I also suspect at this level that if he goes clear, that will be more influential.

I'll be the one on the poo stained grey, looking stressed (me) but pretty (him), whilst knocking poles flying haha...
 
He is lovely , but I agree it is a bit hard to decide hunter or riding horse, but if you only doing local why not do for both? Tack pretty much the same with the exception of martingales in riding horse and possibly a velvet browband but other than that I say have a bash. The way he moves may swing the balance one way or the other as well.

Looking at the photos again, I'd go for hunter. As for WH, most show jump the fences now, and a clear round is a clear round. I've taken a little TB mare to HOYS, as she could jump the big tracks, so at unaff, you have a real advantage, especially if he's nicely schooled.
 
Hmm...maybe I should encourage OP to go riding horse - handy way to do away with the competition for WH haha :-) Only joking ofc, will be nice to see a fellow HHOer out and about!

Oooh how exciting! Have you been before then? I'm literally based about 5 minutes around the corner. Did the judge ride in any of the classes? I haven't shown since I was a kid so am a bit confused by it all.
 
I've not been to wakes end before but from what I've found out so far at this level, I doubt very much that the judge will ride. In fact I think I saw their post on Facebook saying no to that.

See you next weekend ��. Luckily I assume you'll be in the bigger class so we won't be directly competing !
