Right well my mare, v long 15.3hh WB has now got cocky jumping and has started to come to the fences by trying to pull me out the saddle by putting her head down. She is currently ridden in a myler and has a v senstivie mouth - over bit and she rears. So was thinking what can I use to one have better brakes and 2 stop her from pulling her head down?

sorry but do you have a trainer??

I would get someone to help you on the ground - do you schol regularly have you dont grids with her etc??

What hight fences are you trying to jump ?

I school 3 times a week and had been concentrating on dressage. We do a bit of everything: grids, single fence, courses, gymnastic work. Sounds like perhaps I need to get a pro in to help? I guess I haven't bothered as its all been going well.

Ahh the new Snoop trick.

After the training with Ollie T the other week I now ride off the back, 1 gear up from I normally would.
I keep my hands low basically if he pulls me he pulls against himself now.

I do lots of changes of rein, canter figures of eight with trot or simple changes have fences coming off turns, make him halt after a fence etc.

YO has been really helpful and we start off with trot walk trot transistion then leg yeild over constantly keeping the horse going.

I ride in a KK snaffle and flash wtih running martingale - as long as i keep riding forward off the turn and plan my route sooner it works a lot better.

But its a real bugger lol

I have owned her for 18 months and we were jumping up to 1.20m at home and 1m at local shows. She had a scare in the summer when we were schooling on thr flat and it has taken time and patience to get her confidently jumping again. We are now back to jumping about 1.10m at home and 90cm at shows.

I will incorporate lots more transitions leg yielding. She does have a tilted pelvis which causes problems with canter sometimes

Oops should have said what level youre riding at, haha I have this on a 4 year old! so mines just green/baby opinonated little git lol

I would however, still do loads of transistions have fences up and do your flatwork around them when she is soft and responsive then let her come to the fence.

What about lunging over poles or putting poles infront of the fence? have a line of canter poles to a fence then take poles away so it doesnt break your rhythm. Really good exercise.

I tend to start off with poles to the fence and they take them away. I think she just started to come into herself SAt and was being opinionated and thought she knew it all kind of thing. I am SJ this weekend and want to feel I can stop. She is old enough to know better at 9 though has the mental attitude of a 4/5 YO as broken in as a 7yo

Hi, have you tried riding to the fence holding her together with more leg to push her up to your hands and raising your hands a little ? Also, try putting `A` poles onto the top of the fence like a /\ with a gap in the middle. This is to make the horse back off a little and look up into the fence. But get ready for a big jump.
Hope this helps.
