Calling all showjumpers!

I have a traditional wool show jacket which I wear when competing (Affiliated newcomers & fox), but it seems these are becoming outdated now and everyone is wearing the stretchy machine washable technical jackets. What do you think?

The one I have seen most people wearing has the splits at the back in a contrasting colour, anyone know what brand this is? I dont even know where to start looking!

I tried some on in the Weston Lawns shop but at £400 plus they seem outrageously expensive. Can anyone recommend anything? Has anyone had any problems with theirs or any they are particularly happy with?

Any bargains to be had or do I just bite the bullet and pay the £400????

Its the animo with the splits, but they are very expensive!! I've brought a new pikeur jacket which is a lot cheaper, but still slightly stretchy and very comfy :) would recommend!!

It was probably an Animo you tried! :D

They're lovely jackets but very pricey. I have the Equiport technical which I think is very good value (still around the £300 mark) but you can choose any colour you want.

They do the vents at the back in different colours so you can make your own jacket, whereas the Animo only come in set colours.

Have a look at their website, although I do love Animos, I just think the Equiport ones are just as nice, more variety and come at a smaller price :)

It would be animo you tried at Weston lawns. I bought a pikeur technical jacket last year and have gone back to my wool one. I hate the way dust sticks to the technical fabric making it look grubby before I have even ridden. Also defeats the object of breathable outer fabric when manufacturers line the sleeves with standard lining fabric, ended up taking the scissors to my expensive jacket. Shop around would be my advice

The page 3 girl who has just remarried for the 'enth time has a jacket in her range for £60 which is apparently good. You may need to replace the buttons tho' unless you like bling....

I've got a Prestatie jacket, it's super stretchy and really flattering.

It has slits half way to your elbow and doesn't restrict you at all.

I loved my animo. Sold it to get a prestatie in the end (it paid for my new jacket & still had a bit left to play with!)

I didn't like the equiport - just hated the fabric was too thin gor my liking.

Getting a JVanD jacket for my birthday though as going to be doing some dressage and eventing so want somethung a little more classical.

Sold my animo as had it when i had my matching competiion gear for the horses so now they have gone fancied a fresh start.

Yuk horrid horrid

I got sent a example equiport one, it looked like cheap tat. I was horrified to think someone would pay the price they were asking

I opted for there made to measure wool one for not much more and it's lovely

I think all the technical ones look cheap I'm afraid. Total rip off.

I have a John Whittaker technical SJ jacket which is v comfortable, water resistant and machine washable. I think it looks ok, nowhere near as nice as the Animo or Spooks ones but considerably less expensive!

I am so excited to comment haha!I spent months researching jackets to buy - and I was going to splash out with hundred of euro until I found out that new technical jackets (alot cheaper!) had started comming out! Yay for you!

Right first of all I would steer clear of Spooks if I were you. In a few months if you buy a Spooks you will look as common as muck! They are lovely jackets but I wouldn't spend so much money on something just to look like everyone else!
You didnt say how much money you can spend, but I'll just give you some options :)

I have an Equine Couture Italia show coat - I love it! It was $116 from The Lexington Horse, $50 tracked postage, €40 import duty (to Ireland)

If you look it up, let me tell you it looks much nicer in real life :)It's really cool fabric, do you wont sweat! the poppers\buttons undo and then you have a zipper which I like! Only thing I find is the last popper undoes alot! Prestaties have one like this but its a few hundred pounds dearer!

Moving on to Prestaties! I adore the Prestaties Sport Vittoria - and I have promised myself when I get to Pony Grand Prix I will splash out - and not until, haha! Can't remember how much that is now!

I know a lad who just got the new Horseware one, which is extremely cheap - -approx €75! It's nothing amazing though!

Then ofcourse there are Equiports which are all customizable! They were the "in" thing before Animo arround. I know a girl who has a customized one before the technical fabrics came out - she adored purple and got everything purple, grey jacket wth purple pinstripes, buttons, pocket\jacket lining - if you;re crazy about a color that would work lovely!

Love this too! Look at that little color detailing -WOW! I don't know your age but I'm 14 and adore that! That is about £193 - looks waayyy more though!

I only discovered this one a few days ago - and love it! I mean that Blue - WOW! This is the Eurostar Olympia, that is just under €400 though.

If you have limited funds and are not into trends then I wouldnt go with the crowd. Because it will move on and you will be left behind. Be unique!
Hope this helped, ahah I love shopping for competition stuff- Never buy half of it, I'm such a window shopper!

I just have to say even if you spend the £££ on an animo you won't regret it! They are so comfy and easy to wash, keep a good quality and fit. Would never be able to go back to a non-technical (had to wear my old tweed thing for an exam and looked awful), and will get an animo again eventually. I do like the look of the spooks ones and the eurostar are super yummy but not sure I'd have the balls to be one of the first to start wearing them, prefer to be a sheep :p

Wow thanks so much for all the input everyone! Some new brands there that I havent heard about before!
I have ruled out the Equiport one now, too many people saying it doesnt look good.
Cruising_for_you your reply was so useful! I followed the link to the equine couture ones and have found a really nice one on thier website that I really like and for much less that the Animo's.

I am 24, not really into the bling thing, or anything too bright, but definately want something stylish. I have some equiport numnahs which are navy with a gold binding do I am hoping this jacket will go with them! I am excited now to get it! Only problem is if I dont like it , or it doesnt fit when it has come all that way!

Cruising that is such an amazing reply, thankyou so much!
Went on the equine couture website, love their jackets, thinking of ordering one. How long did yours take to arrive from day of order? How did you find the sizing, did you have to go up a size or did you chose yours on bust / waist measurements?
Thanks so much!

Whereas the animos I have experience of have NOT worn/lasted well.

I have a Pikeur Skarlett in chocolate with a bronze suede collar- around £150 and beautiful.

I loved the eurostar but wasnt sure the colour was for me, and wasnt wowed by the black (my new colours)

Cruisingforyou - what make is the one with the nice detailing on the pockets? Thanks

I have a gpa jacket which is lovely, and my traditional jackets are a pikeur and an equiport.
I've seen the spooks jackets on and in the shop ( in NZ) and they have a horrible sheen to them, like cheap tights and they feel like a high street body con dress! Glad I saw them as really liked the look of them in pictures!

I got an Equiport technical jacket in January and i absolutely love it - best thing i have ever bought. I got a made to measure and it fits perfectly, really comfortable and looks stylish in my opinion! I have had loads of comments about how nice it is too. It washes really well. No way is it cheap tat - although of course I do think it depends on what colours and bling you decide to have as its possible to turn even the nicest jackets into ones that look like tat if you choose the wrong colour coordination etc!!

Llanali, are the Pikeur Skarlett traditional fabric jacket or the new stretchy techincal fabric? I cant tell in the pictures but I do like the look of the Skarlett!

Oohh don't I feel very important now! Would love to be a personal shopper- what a dream job! If anyone wants to employ me ..... ;)
TulipBlaze - I knew about that one but forgot to add it in. I bought Priority postage because I wanted piece of mind about where it was, and it was only $15 more :) I cant remember exactly as I bought it over the christmas period, but I remember it took nearly 2 weeks to just dispatch it, and about another 2 weeks to get here? Probably would be alot quicker as the postmen wouldnt be as busy!
I'm a regular size 8, and I got a Medium. Would of fit into Small but I am still growing so wanted some room! I have room to grow, but it does not look big on me. The only thing I find is the sleeves are a little long, but that would be easily taken up.

Lucemoose - JUST what my Mum said! I have only been jumping registered for a year, but I was gonna fork out €250 on a jacket- which would of been mental because I had only barely won that! I tried it on at the RDS - before they became mad over here. My mum saying that, the cost and the fact that everyone had them now made me turn my nose up at them a bit. That said they are gorgeous jackets - I know though if I bought one , next year I'll be left behind when they release the "latest model"

sj_xc_hannah_ I'm the exact opposite when it comes to style, I am a shepherd and nothing but!

Went to buy a new techncal jacket and wanted anything except the Animo. (Did not want what everyone else was wearing). Tried the Prestatie, the Gersemi and the Equiport and ended up buying the Animo. It is so comfortable. Very pleased with it.
