hi there all, posted on here last week that my horse was consistantley having poles down in competition (eventing) but jumping well at home. thought he was having the poles down with his front legs, but just seen about 5 photo's of him from twesledown and this is def not the case, he gives them about a foot in front so has to be catching them with the hinds. how do i make him more carefull behind???

It is more difficult to make them careful behind. My first though is you may be getting a bit fast and flat, try and concentrate on a bouncer canter. The other thing you could try is the weighted hind jumping boots which help them be more careful behind.

What does your instructor say? My lad has a habit sometimes of doing this but it is often because I get my weight back in the saddle on his back too quickly? So my fault rather than his.

The other thing we use is an A-frame at the end of a grid - where you put two poles up resting one end of them on the jump, other end on the floor, then gradually move the ends on the jump close together - that seems to get him snapping his back end up.
