Hi, I've just bought a lovely new showjumper, he's 5yo and has a lovely jump, qualified for 2nd round Newcomers 2012. Problem is I ride like a muppet!! I haven't jumped properly for years and don't want to mess this boy up. Can anyone reccomend a really good instructer please, I'm based in Devon but don't mind travelling a bit.

Many thanks :)

Marion Clarke in Newton Abbot is great. She will talk to you at what ever your level is and not at you. Very patient especially with young horses. She has built a great name for some real top quality youngsters and has coached James, her rider since he was a young lad. She's quite cheap too for what you get out of her lessons.
more info if you google bardun stud.

Without a doubt Erica Oldham. She is really superb and I am mega fussy about trainers. She is in N.devon.

Can vouch for Justin Tuff. He doesn't travel much now though but his arena is fab.

Also there's Clare Sansom, who's very busy but travels around Devon quite a bit.

Whereabouts in Devon are you, as its a very big county?

Hi thanks for all the help. I'm in North Devon, near Bideford. I think Erica Oldham comes to a few yards around here but not sure how regularly (heard very good things about her). I don't mind travelling a bit but would make sense this time of year if there was an indoor school.... :)

Not sure how easy it is from Bideford but went to Tim Cheffings place (Nr Tiverton) at the weekend and he has a fab new indoor school which you can hire and I know Clare teaches there - maybe a good option if not too far.

Erica spends normally 2 days a week teaching in Somerset and the rest in Devon. She is on facebook if you want to get hold of her.

I really rated Ian Wright when I had an SJ and XC lesson with him at Stockland Lovell back in Sept. I'm pretty sure he is in Devon - I have his card at home so will pm you his details if you like?

Bit far from Shepton Mallet - its just outside of Highbridge, near Burnham on Sea at Alston Court.

We've just moved from Bideford down to Cornwall and TBH I found it a bit of a struggle to find decent instructors and facilities in Bideford. I used to have lessons with Yeb de Jong who was fab and rode beautifully too, but I have a feeling that he's moved up North, although am not sure.
