Anybody elze get a bit rusty when not showjumped for. While , i shoejumped for the first time all winter and is was shocking somehow got round ?? but then road completely doffernt on the cross xountry fences ??????

Honestly I was rusty as hell my jump school after a break. So I feel your pain.

That said, I personally wouldn't go to a show, nor in fact even jump school without 30-60 days back undersaddle. And once I do jump again, we tend to start small and do grids to help with placements and so the horse and rider are never put into a losing position.

I also like to practice courses, or course elements at home before a show. 8-10 fences takes more fitness than you think and why risk injury to either horse or rider if they're not at peak fitness to compete.

I am def feeling rusty but hes very fit , does a lot of canter work and gallop work and goes on the water treadmill and has jumped all winter , mainly arena eventing and cross country schooling just not showjumps , his legs always are well looked after bandaged and clayed and has every day tunrut to ensure stays supple , just need more practice in the showjuming ring xx

That makes perfect sense.

Funny... over here we don't really have any indoor eventing or schooling courses on all weather footing, so by habit we're on regular schooling jumps most of the winter. Of course if you're lucky enough to go somewhere warmer for the winter, then they can school real xc. But for the most of us, we're on show jumps over the winter.
