showjumping fillers

my horse likes to look before she leaps! its driving me mad. think it could be my fault but anything new she likes to stop and look the jump 2nd time round! not handy! she raced til she was 6 and she is going to be ten this year and sometimes she does jump first time but if i wavier a bit she jacks on the brakes. anyone had similar problems and how did you overcome it? on recent xc outing used spurs and she was fab, jumped it all,bit speedy but willing! help!

You say she was fab with spurs xc, have you tried spurs when sj?

tried them at home before the xc with some sj to try theory out but we only have one filler and she has jumped it before, though she did go to look and i applied spur and forwards and pop! only 2ft 6 though and an upright. so thought would try at xc training though she did rush trainer didnt commen though, so couldnt be too bad. had put a post on here before about it though and a few people suggested it might be my lower leg swinging about and making her rush by putting spur on when i didnt need too. so tried a grid withthem on and very careful with leg and she jumped good but no new fillers so i guess its time to head to the shows and just see how i get on! dont want to scare her though?? wish they did shows with lots of fillers at 2ft! then she could trot and pop as height not a problem unless i back off! hmmm think there maybe a pattern here! more my problem, im a wuss eh!
