Hi all! I would love to hear your tips, tricks, and suggestions whilst training your showjumping horses!
From bringing back into work, fitness, routines in the yard, treatment, grooming and pre and post-ride routines. All leading up to competing again! Think this would be useful for others also and to discuss our ways of horsemanship with competing jumping horses. 🐎

Hello!

I think the work really depends on what your horse needs. I have quite a 'special' showjumper and when we get him ready for the season we usually lunge him every other day, hand-walks twice a day, as much paddock time as possible, as well as riding 6 days a week. Usually 3 days flat work, one day poles, one day cavalettis and one day jumping (this is if we dont go to a show in the weekend). We usually jump small at home and focus more on techniques.

I also give my horse supplements, mainly vitamins, red cell and super flex (to help his joints). After jumping and competitions we always put ice boots .

In terms of treatment, we have an onsite osteopath that I ask to have a look at my horse every now and then. Before and after any season I get a full check up for my horse from a doctor.

I am honestly really lucky as I have an amazing coach who is like my manager, she manages my horse, what he needs and also our training programs. Without her, I would be lost!
