We went affiliated showjumping on Sunday locally - in preparation for Moreton Morrel Nov at the end of the month. Half way round horse almost falls and is barely weight bearing on near fore. We only live 10 minutes away so support bandaged it and arranged for vet to come. Vet not sure so put HUGE bandage on leg and masses of painkiller. X-rayed yesterday and horse as broken the bone at the back of the knee (don't know "proper" name). So back on with another HUGE (even bigger than the first one!) and back home on at least six months box rest if everything goes to plan. Hopefully if no complications then horse will get back to Novice eventing, but if not .....

We are all gutted, supposed to be going to Blenheim RC on Thursday, then MM Novice at the end of the month, plan was to do a couple more novices, qualify for 1 star, and then consildate next year.

Please may we have lots of H&H hugs and healing vibes - its going to a long long winter!

Oh no, how gutting for you. Posts like this remind me how heartbreaking horses can be, even when you give them all the care and love in the world, and how lucky I was falling with PF at the end of July; she could've done herself SO much more damage than she did (and it was still pretty bad as she broke her jaw

)
Fingers crossed and I hope everything works out well for you.

Its heartbreaking especially when they are going so well.... My own horse has been off for 4mths with soft tissue damage in his feet, but still is along way off being right, i just cant bare the thought of having him pts.

Sorry to hear that, my horse has just finished 4 months box rest after a small fracture. She is sound now and just coming back into work...it will soon go by!

Thanks - she's managing to get round her stable with her peg leg, not too happy at being the only one in all day, she's going to have to get used to it. Radio 2 on all day! Going back to be xrayed in just under 4 weeks and then again 4 weeks later. I remember years ago feeding comfrey to a horse with a stress fracture - but think there is something about not feeding it now - can anyone give me any up to date info? Thanks.
