Showjumping jackets....your thoughts please!

Thanks for all the replies guys :D I'm glad it's sparked off a bit of a debate - it isnt something that gets brought up very often :)

I'm not going to stop wearing my green ;) I hope it doesnt look tacky....personally I love it to bits, and I love wearing it now because it makes me remember all the things we achieved back then :) A bit of a talisman, maybe! Even if we are only jumping 2'6 now, and not even getting placed :D I guess my burgundy collar stops it looking too 'Irish'....what do you think??

I do understand the point that a coloured jacket makes you more obvious if you cock up - and I suppose that is just the price to pay. What I dont want is to have to pay out a load of money to have a black jacket made (I'm so dumpy that off the peg stuff just doesnt fit!) when actually, I love my green one and would still like to use it :D

See my post re 1970's jackets, I had a green one and matching hat and my friend had the maroon set and yes we did look the bees knees.
I like grey and fawn jackets as well.

think I may live near the OP or otherwise that everyone has the Ellen wannabee in the red jacket £££ hat and boots, on a bouncing sideways pony which is in the same restricted novice 2' class as my 10yo on her hairy 12.2hh.
I LOATHE teenagers who compete in these classes, regardless of their jackets, but red jackets do make it worse. I don't believe they have never been placed (if they haven't, why are they wearing all that silly gear, what is this, fancy dress?) and I think they should be ashamed of themselves - if you are jumping 3' then start with the 2'9" class and give the little ones a chance.
And wear a hairnet.

LOL - we definitely live in the same area.

Mum upset someone the other day - she was stewarding the SJ at a local show, and a lady came along whose daughter jumps several ponies affiliated at 1m - 1.10m. She was doing the 2ft-2'3 class (on her best pony) and didnt take too kindly to Mum pointing out the fact that she was pothunting....!!!

T_G - I didn't! It was soooo tempting, but I didn't fancy the idea of anyone coming along and asking what level I compete at for me to have to mumble that I'm still only doing novice ;) One day though! :D (I can dream!!)

Well, err, as you know, I did my First And Only Ever Dressage Test in the pouring rain in a shirt, tie, and skull cap with black velvet cover. I think id look a right twonk in tails! At least you and Danny would look pretty... Me, not so much! :o

I think your jacket looks gorgeous! And you match E's little hat :D

sorry I think it looks pretentious and silly, and would have a right giggle if I saw anyone dressed like that
(but I fin bright pink collars silly looking too...)

Indeed! Although I have to say, the ear muffs are one thing I do leave off for unaffiliated SJ - although I have noticed quite a few horses wearing them. Somehow it just seems a bit much to have them on as well! I have also noticed some eventers using them, which to me looks very strange!

As someone said earlier, with no hard and fast fashion rules for local or BS showjumping, there really are a lot of different style interpretations out there!

I mean, wouldn't you be EMBARRASSED to be claiming never to have won anything. I mean, hello sweetie, at your age, on that pony, in that outfit, that's downright sad.

And wear a hairnet. :D

I think you look very smart! And have followed some of your posts previously. You should be proud that your back jumping with confidence. Don't worry what others say - its how you feel that counts.
(Our local unaff jumping are happy with shirts and hoodies on! A jacket looks a bit over the top there!!)

I actually very much like your greed jacket! Its not too in your face and stands out but its a little but different :) When you said green Iw as expecting like a bright green jacket but I really like yours I would definatly keep wearing it :D

I remember buddying up with someone at Stoneleigh one year who also had a green jacket like mine, except hers had a gold collar, not burgundy....we were like the Faux Irish brigade on all the course walks! :D

Why so judgmental? It is just fashion, how can you be bothered to care so much about what other people think looks nice? Some horsey people are so ridiculously conservative - there are bigger issues in the world more worthy of LOATHING than teenagers riding without hairnets... :-D

No, I LOATHE them for riding all over the little ones in classes they've no right to be in. Pothunting and Cheating, basically.

I do wish they'd wear a hairnet, yes, but that's a different issue.

There are bigger issues in the world than bothering to answer me, as well, I'd guess. :D

I like your jacket, my taste is quite conservative (I do everything in very traditional brown tweed!) but your green colour is nice. I wouldn't think anything if I was warming up next to you at an unaff sj competition. Once I was at my local rc sj show and a young girl turned up togged out from head to toe in colour coordinated kit, bordering on chavvy, and I did think to myself that my chances of getting placed had gone dramatically downhill - but confidence was soon restored when she was eliminated and then hunted down by the steward for excessive use of the whip. I'd feel a but silly turning up anywhere in anything too bright, I feel happiest blending into the background in brown!

I like your green jacket....looks smart!!! You feel comfortable in it, so what if anyone else doesnt like it :)
I dont like red though, def not on top female competitors, never have...
