Showjumping mane ;)

Love it!

Scissors all the way for us as we end up in a wresting match when the pulling comb comes out. So now I have learnt to love the showjumping mane :)

No no no! My key is no pulling/thinning as it ends up all spiked and you can't get it straight! Just trim every 3 weeks and band it over once a week for 3 days!! Then it stays neat :)

Can I ask do you clip up the sides of the tail too rather than pulling? I get a lot of people who look at me funny when I say my SJers tail is not pulled.

Probably a really stupid question but what do you mean by band it over? My horses mane is quite thick and never looks this neat when trimmed with scissors. What am I doing wrong? The line is always straight but looks silly

No tails are left natural and just cut! Don't think I know anyone who pulls/shaves tails in SJ?? I will take a pic of banded mane and post it on:) one I did earlier ;)

This is a finished result of a different horse i trimmed this mornif as the one in original photo is being ridden atm :) http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/58868_550406771677771_1993897658_n.jpg?dl=1 and this is what I mean by banding! Normally the bands would be half the width but this horse has just come in and her mane is an absolute disgrace! It's also handy for plaiting as the width is laid out ready for you to go! It normally looks neater too.. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/69006_550406818344433_1207761382_n.jpg?dl=1 All of you people who think SJ people have it easy just cutting manes are wrong lol!!!

I like to finish a cut mane by cutting up into the bottom of the mane (at an angle) to lose the "banged" look, especially if they have a thicker mane. I am a happy convert to a well cut mane! :)

I'm not a fan of the showjumping mane... I quite like horses to look elegant and I don't think they do horses necks any justice tbh...

Ah I see what you mean by banded. My horses mane looks nice for 5 mins after its been combed then I turn round and he has bed head again. That can be this weekends challenge!

You can leave it in for longer periods of time to start with if you feel you need to, but don't do them too tight as it breaks the hair and you end up with spiky bits again!

Lovely :)
If I could pull my mares mane and her still have over 4 hairs then I would. Pulling doesn't work when they've barely got any hair! Also hogging should be illegal. Actually illegal!
