Hi again haha, i was wondering if anyone had any advice on when to buy a showjumping pony? like when in the year to most come up?

Depends on what you are looking for - your threads have been a bit all over the place.

If you're looking for a JA immediately after the winter championships - but most JAs pass pretty much within BS. If they have the ability to keep going they'll go from ride to another without being advertised. You need to be fairly embedded in BS to get a shot. If you see a JA advertised externally take care - no-one needs to advertise a successful JA still competing.

If you want a JD - anytime really. The dream purchase really is a pony lightly competed by an adult so it has experience but when you re-register it, it has no points. Hens teeth though! But really a JD is an all rounder that hasn't specialized yet. Like your current pony! Probably most are on the market in September when riders depart for Uni or mid spring simply because that is a good time to buy.

For a JC - you get a small rush in the late autumn with people not wanting to over winter something they won't keep and again in the early spring. Then again about June / july as the second rounds finish when people sell ones that won't go on.

Buying a JC can be a fraught minefield. Everyone is looking for "the" pony that will take them or their child to stardom and that is a fertile ground for fraudsters I'm afraid. Your best bet is to speak to your local BS academy. Start working with a BS coach if you do not already and let them use their contacts to find you one.

If you are looking for a small string and don't mind selling on what doesn't work you can be a little less picky. Buy it - see if it works for you. If not - sell on. If your aim is to get to HOYS in 2017 I'm afraid - brutal as it sounds - you're looking for a tool. Buy lots, sell on what doesn't work. (One of the reasons I'm not that keep on BS juniors... although we've done it too...)

If you're looking for one pony that you might do a bit of affiliated on but otherwise will keep once you turn 16 and do other stuff with - then you are really looking for a talented all rounder. Good ones come up regardless of the time of year! (So do bad ones...)

It depends! Most likely they will come up either just before or after a junior is too old for ponies/that particular height which is either around Jan or maybe after the Summer when they have jumped all the big summer shows! However there are alway plenty for sale throughout the year due to different circumstances such as exams. Often people will approach the owners at shows even if the horse isn't advertised and it seems that often this works well to. Good luck with your pony search
