Showjumping to become cool - straight from the mouth of the Daily Mail

This is something that was suggested a couple of years ago so it is good that they are actually doing something about it.

The best class I have ever seen was the Hamburg Speed Derby where each rider was introduced with a themed tune and it really got the crowed and the riders going. The atmosphere was brilliant.

The next thing will be nick names for the riders to go on the shirts (like darts) such as John 'the Guvnor' Whitaker.............Over to you for suggestions for other riders.........

Personally like the sound of it as long as i dont have to wear a polo shirt in a freezing areana mid winter.
Anyone who has sat through hours of SJ must agree it can be the most boring place on earth. This has been made worse by the dreaded 2 phase. At least in A7 you have a jump-off to get excited about.
Load music? Dont see the problem. If the spooky dressage horses can handle it the SJers should.
I would love to jump at compls with an atmosphere, crowds chearing and clapping etc. Happens at wimbledon between points and certainly adds rather than detracts.
Dancing girls not sure about but bring on the cheer leaders!!!!
Yes I'm an old fuddy duddy but would be great to see some more excitement in the sport i love.

I think it's great that the BSJA have realised that there's a problem and are actively seeking to sort it out and to raise the profile of our great sport

As to jumping in polo shirts.....yes please ! How many of us in the summer when it's scorching hot ditch our jackets anyway...and what modern, physical sport does anyone know of that is performed in a jacket and tie anyway
crazy.gif
The blousons are becming more popular...but don' forget they're not allowed under FEI rules...only BSJA rules...hence you won't see anyone going round the Hickstead Derby in one

Loud music...why not !? Loads of prize giving ceremonies are accompanied by loud music...teach your horses to behave if they don't already

Don't get the dancing girls thing personally...but only because it's a sport that is predominently watched by women.....how about the dancing boys instead

I notice that it's a lot of the younger generation who are saying they like the traditional aspects of the sport...probably the people who would be too young to remember the sport in it's heyday when it was televised at peak time every evening during HOYS, RIHS and Olympia
confused.gif
If they had seen those shows they would remember how much excitemement and enthusiasm was expended during the 'novelty' events such as the knockout classes and the fancy dress pairs relay
grin.gif
The sport was full of personalities back then......something sadly lacking today unfortunately

Oh, and if they're going to do live interviews they'd better be a bit selective about who they choose to interview. Being a member of an extremely successful family/dynasty does NOT automatically make you a good public speaker lol! Bring on the likes of Billington and Stockdale for that side of things

There is a commentator already that does play a little theme tune everytime a horse comes into the ring. For Unbelievable Darco he plays Black Beauty, if someone goes clear and into the lead a bit of Tina turner and Simply the best. None of the horses look upset by it and it actually made a wet afternnon at Wales and West interesting - I can still remember it and it was years ago.

QR I think its a great idea (although have slight reservations about the dancing girls

). more crowd pleasing classes would be good and while I like the traditional jackets maybe it is time to move on, maybe it could be competitors choice as to what they wear? and yes, I am old enough to remember the good old days of sjing on the telly *sighs*

So you'd prefer dancing boys to dancing girls. Not thinking of going over to dressage are you?

Nooooooooooooo......although I am now bsed on a predominantly dressage yard

Simply stating I didn't get the thinking behind the dancing girls bit for a predominantly female based audience...but then I s'pose Hickstead is only a few miles up the road from Brighton so maybe....
