If the top bit is stitchable, get the vet out. I had a client's horse that fell out hunting and nearly severed his ear. Vet put in nearly 50 stitches and it healed beautifully. However if you leave that flap you will end up with a "notch" in the ear and a sticking out bit, so even if it can't be stitched, the vet might want to tidy it up a bit. Good luck!
ooo!!! bless, the things these horses end up doing to themselves dont worry i am sure it will be ok (thats my way of saying calm down which is a bit ironic as i was in hysterics when my mares sarcoid came off lol)have you called your vet?
I would get the vet out! Hope the horse is covered for tetanus? The vet should be able to either stitch or trim it up neatly (make sure you don't put any wound powder on first). I would also guess that antibiotics would be prescribed just to ward off any infection.
i dont think its stichable, and i cant get near it to put wound gel on it! he will just about let me sponge it gently with warm water and i have put some drops of tea tree on it...
the horse is done for tetnanus, but i havent callled the vet as im not sure he would do anything i havent done?
