Ok here's one for you! Has anyone used cross cut shredded paper as bedding for their horses. What are your thoughts on this? Just wondered as we have alot of shredded paper at work and it could be used!! Obviously staples have been removed before shredding.

afew of my friends use shredded paper as they also get it from work. it seems to be a good bed and not too bad to muck out. it does compact down overnight but generally seems alright. although one friend does have a slight problem with her gelding eating it! the others don't though.

I used it and found it worked best when mixed with shavings. On its own, you need a lot for a decent bed - I was using 1 bin bag per night over matting so for a full bed I can imagine you needing to use at least 5 bags to get going. I found it very easy to muck out as all the wet sticks together, but it is very heavy!

I get mine from work, and add it to the cardboard bedding I use and it makes the cardboard last longer. Also the stables cat loves shreadded paper, giving it his approval for warmth and comfort.

It also breaks down quickly in the muck heap.
