I use shrink wrapped haylage which suits the horses and is easy to store. Some brands like horsehage come fully sliced thorough making it easy to fill nets. However the brand I’m using now which is good quality and much cheaper, is only partially sliced through which makes it really difficult to pull apart to fill the nets. I wondered if a chainsaw might work to cut it into proper slices but my OH says not. It would clog the blades. So my question is has anyone got any ideas as to what might work?

The best thing I ever found was a really sharp quality bread knife, but you wouldn't want to have to do a thick slice with it. Otherwise, it seems easier to get apart of you tease it rather than pull at it.

Hehee, i’ve used bales like that, theyre a bugger arent they! I’ve been known to get the crowbar out with such bales - stab it with the flat end into the depth of the bale, and lever chunks apart that way. It helps to get the whole bale to loosen and use.
Agree with your OH, chainsaw likely would clog.
Those types of bales need a samurai sword expert!
