I am moving to shrops in August- to start a new job in September. I am seriously struggling to find info on any yards to rent, fields to rent or livery yards.

I am pretty flexible I am happy to either rent a whole small yard, or rent good grazing which is well fenced or become a livery. I need room for 2 ponies. One is a colt. Money isnt really an issue for the perfect place but I DONT want full livery.

I am in Shrops from Thursday night for the weekend if anyone knows of anything- im starting to get desperate. With regards to location we are going to be buying in either Shrewsbury/Bridgnorth or Ironbridge Gorge (I work in Telford- OH works in Shrewsbury)

Massive thanks !!!

It's a bit of a nightmare, I moved back up here last year and really struggled to find anywhere despite only having moved away 3 years ago and knowing the area. There aren't many good yards at all, and not many I know that would take a colt.

My yard is full with a waiting list, and I don't think she would take on anymore DIY if there was space. Friend's yard over Shrews way may have a space or two - I can ask if you like? That said...I was going to look last year but they would only take on full or part livery. I wanted somewhere in Bridgnorth as it's closer to home but there's nothing at all.

I'll ask around for you.

Walford and north shropshire college do livery DIY/Full and part livery at there Walford campus outside Shrewsbury. Try Presscot equine centre too, they are just down the road from Walford college, not sure what liverys they do but can only ask them. Google their name as im not sure of their website but they are based outside Shrews in a place called Baschurch. I can ask a friend for contact details on places near Telford if you like too?

I used to work at prescott when I was in Sixth Form so know the yard well. I'm not sure if they do DIY though... will try them over the weekend. Thanks

At the moment I dont know as we havent found a house yet, but its roughly in the area im looking. Any possibilities?

I am at a fab yard in Broseley (overlooking the Ironbridge Gorge) - not sure if they's take a colt though, and we are currently full on the yard itself although I can ask if they have any grass livery available - there is a waiting list for stables at the moment (I waited 6 months).

Is that any help? There are several yards I could advise you to avoid.....!

Was just going to post about Vallew View at Broseley but suspect that is where you are talking about jnb?
I have also found Severn Gorge Livery in the phone book, tel 01952 433015 but know nothing about it.
There are shows regularly at Stanley Park in Bridgnorth run by Shropshire Horse shows, you can find a link to them at www.midarc.co.uk. Might be worth contacting the secretary.
The farm where the showground is for Telford Riding Club were advertising DIY livery spaces last time we were there. It is at Bratton just north of Telford if that is any good I can try and find a contact number.

Hmm wouldn't bother with Severn Gorge TBH.
The old Riding School (now known as Church Farm) at Tong is advertising livery of all types at the moment, again not sure if they have facilities for colts as the turnout is mares in one field and geldings in another.

Check out the Equestrian Classifieds at www.shropshirestar.com - they often have livery yards advertising.

Thanks guys- thats brilliant- Re the colt- this is partly why we were thinking of taking on our own yard so we could create the facilities nec. for him. He may be a gelding by next spring - but if he continues to do well in showing etc we'll keep him entire.

jnb- if you could find out re current waiting list time would be super!

Tee hee - I had no idea there were HHO-ers so close by, I live in Much Wenlock and my mum lives in Broseley!

Avoid Mill Farm in Hughley (just off Wenlock Edge), will happily elaborate by PM if required! There's Berriewood which is on the Wenlock-Shrewsbury road (think it's the A548?) which has excellent facilites but not sure if they do DIY. The Wyke used to be excellent when I went there for lessons a few years ago, they have a website with a map of their location.

Ah yes the Wyke I remember! when I was younger it was considered to be a bit 'posh' is that still the case? Thanks again- more ideas to chase up!

Oh yes, Berriewood of course, im pretty sure they do DIY and they have great facilities. We also know people that keep theyre horses at Manorfields and Annscroft. I would also second Walford College as being great. However yes, you may have a problem finding somewhere that would take a colt. Btw: these are all ones in/nearby Shrewsbury.

Mmm - there must be a lot of people around there with 'facilities' - you could contact Michael Sagar (of Hounds Magazine) at Hughley (contact me if you can't find him in the book). He has nice stabling and fields and I don't think he has horses of his own anymore. If he can't help I'm sure he'll know someone around there who can.

is hales nr market drayton shropshire to far its about 15 miles from telford ? dont know on price but she wants to let her block of eights stables out on the yard there is a walker in and out door school wash room and loads more or i am sure she would possiabley rent a couple to you on diy or she will do part or full livery?

The Wyke Equestrian Centre is a nice little yard.
Buy the Shropshire Star/Express & Star/ Bridgnorth Journal when your up here and have a look in the newspapers.

I ride past his horses every day - he certainly still has them!

I second the idea that he will know of somewhere with vacancies though, or offer to put you up on his land temporarily.
