I haven't used AW for years though someone at the yard had him out a while back to check a saddle. Anyone know if he sells second hand saddles, or just his own new stuff?

Thanks

PS.. am in the market for a second hand 17 or 17.5in MW jumping saddle if anyone has a bargain that needs a new home

Hi chestnut cob,

Im 99% sure Andy dosent sell second saddles. Mel Lewis does tho and shes very good. PM me if you want her phone number

I have recently had Andy out to check my saddles and my Mum's horses' saddles and it was an eye opener! I had bought them both from ML but horse has lost weight - Andy was fab.
Suffice to say I shall definitely be using him again (for saddle checking).
Pretty sure he doesn't sell second hand saddles though I must admit I didn't ask, and nor did he try to sell anyone on my yard a new saddle - he just ensured everyone's fit their horse properly!

Dont think that is a fair comment about ML, she has been excellent with me for years now. Horses do change shape either from weight loss or gain and also change the more work they get. I have bought new and second hand from ML and had her back to alter them if needed, and she has always done an excellent job!

I don't think jnb really made much comment about ML, just said she'd had AW to check and horse had changed shape. I've been happy with ML so far, fitted my DR saddle and then refitted it a few months later when horse changed shaped.

As I said, I bought both my saddles from Mel and was (and still am!) very happy with them.
I went with AW as he'd been highly recommended by my Shiatsu lady, and also because he does repairs and adjustments on site there and then - I didn't want to be without my saddles for any length of time.

I don't think he sells second hand saddles but wouldn't harm to ask him. I actually saw him this morning as went to N Shrops meet and he is now Master so don't suppose he will be answering his phone just now

Do you go out with the NSH then?! I wanted to go out this morning (I was sent the meet card) but couldn't get the day off work. I know AW is one of the Masters but was interested in the saddlery side of things

Mel also does repairs and alterations on site.

I think perhaps the wording of your first post made it sound like you doubted Mels ability.

At the end of the day horses will change shape and it is the owners responsibility to have the saddle checked.

I have used Mel for years and have always been more than satisfied with the work she has done. In fact I now organise saddle fitting days with Mel at my yard. The physio comes at the same time and uses his thermal camera so that we camera so that we can ensure the best fit possible.

I'd just like to add that in no way do I doubt Mel's ability and if I could edit my post, I would! I merely used AW as, at the time I could not be without either saddle and I knew AW adjusts them on site (also someone else had already got him coming out!)
Were I in the market for another MTM new saddle I would use Mel.....just so there are no misunderstandings

AW does not deal in second hand saddles but can make you one, at approx £700 all in (I had to enquire recently on behalf of a friend).

Sadly my hunting days are long past

I went to the meet and followed in the car for about 30 minutes. Good refreshments at the meet though
