Hi everyone, just after a bit of local advice regarding riding club!

I'm really wanting to join a riding club to get out and about a bit with new girly & to meet horsey people in my area as I keep the horses at home and don't really get a chance to experience the social side of them (other than you lovely lot of course ;) ). I think riding club would be a fab opportunity for both of us to have some fun and would be a good way to find out about events etc which I keep missing out on!

I assumed Shrewsbury & District would be the closest to me but I found out that the rallies are held at Walford college, so drove down to go and have a look - and as embarrassing as this is, our crap lorry can't get us there! The roads are quite twisty from our way and it's a beast incapable of doing tight turns / fitting under low trees, and we'd have to go through town - and our lorry being THE most unreliable horsebox invented tends to break down on every outing so don't fancy bringing it through a busy area unless we absolutely have to (...cringe)

Do they have all their rallies / events up that way or do they have things "this side" of Shrewsbury too?

I'm located quite near to Berriewood (Condover way)... are there any other riding clubs in this area or is SDRC the closest one for me?

Ps ) For those of you thinking "just get a better lorry!" - we're fighting a losing battle to change it! Apparently we "don't use it enough to justify getting a new one" - we only don't use the bloody thing because it can't manage to get us from A to B without breaking down and blocking the roads !! Grr!:rolleyes: xx

Hi, we haven't done much showing for the last couple of years with ours but went to Telford Riding Club at Bratton for a few years and really enjoyed it, it was never too busy so great for youngsters and everyone seemed friendly. We live just outside Whitchurch and it was nearly all A roads for us, best of luck.

second sophie's comment, i'm also new the riding clubs in the area having not had a horse able to compete for some time. i have recently visited both telford riding club just down the road from shawbirch and also Wrekin north riding club around the stirchley area of telford. both were extreamly welcomming and very friendly and lovely atmosphere :) would happily recommend. as far as access i use a 4x4 and trailer but found them both very easy to get to and access was great at both. they both have a website and facebook pages. hopefully the weather will improve considerably for the next show and hopefully dry the ground up other wise i think we will need flippers on their feet not shoes :D

I am on the shropshire border.

Try Shropshire horse shows held at Netley lovely place have alsorts on Dressage, Jumping, Showing and there have been talks about arena eventing type stuff bit of something for everyone!!

X

Lol yes could probably brave the M54 - at least the road is wide enough for people to go around us when we grind to a halt!! ;)

Thank you for the suggestions, will hop onto google. Bennions Field - good to know they're friendly, did you prefer one over the other?
Will get in contact with both and see if I can go and visit :)

Netley's very close to me too, I had no idea they held so many things - will definitely go and watch next time they have something on to see what it's like as I think even our lorry may get 10 minutes down the road without disaster! - and if it doesn't we can always abandon it & attempt to ride back :D

Thank you! xx

I am on the committee of Wrekin North RC. If you want to come along to our show give me a shout and I can meet you for a chat and do some introductions.

They have Showjumping on tomorrow :D

Oh I never even knew there was a showground in Stirchley. Though I haven't lived here very long so I guess I can be let off? Are human only spectators welcome? I have no transport for neddy, though we could probably hack there with a bit more fitness (for both of us!)

Hiya shazza, we have been there many years, we are on the corner up the hill from the rose and crown. Please come along and say hello, we are a friendly bunch and like to make new friends x
