i posted a while back about my horse spooking and had some very good suggestions -i changed her bit and put her on a strong calmer and changed her feed and, touch wood, she seems a lot better - but i think that if your horse is that way inclined you will have to accept it to a certain amount, i think you just need to try and relax and show her that there is nothing to worry about - is she new to you? im afraid mine started testing me out a bit over silly things and i got very firm and a bit tough with her and it seemed to work - good luck x
Some horses are more jumpy than others anyway. My horse spooks at pigeons - they lie in wait for us, I'm sure of it! I try not to make a big deal out of it and just push him forwrds. I think if you start screeching at them and panicking it just reinforces the fact that there is something to be scared of. Maycbe try hacking out with others if she is really bad - just til she gains some confidence...
I had one who would storm past tractors, combines, lorrys, road work etc but a disguarded fag packet or plastic bag, well total no no's. She never got any better over 20 years, I just learned to love her quirks.
Or there was the mare that attacked cyclists, pushchairs and random cars, thankfully she did mellow with age.
Can you imagine the panic, there's me on her and a familly out for afternoon stroll with toddler on bike and baby in pushchairs, all stopping going ah look at the pretty pony (palomino) and there's me hanging on for dear life trying to get past ASAP without her jumping and squishing their brood flat.
My next horse is going to be a gelding. Although last horse was and I just couldn't hack him out alone at all!
My horse is a gelding and he spooks at everything! He's great in traffic, but pigeons, newly dug earth and a fence panel that blew down in the wind all cause major trauma. Cyclists and people with umbrellas may also be frightening depending on his mood.
Getting cross just makes things worse so I try to ignore it as much as possible.
My mare spooks at loads of things, as has been suggested above, i think if your horse is like that there's not a lot you can do about it, just grin a bare it, and always be prepared!

my horse drives me mad as he doesnt bat an eyelid at really scary things, he's scared of certain plants if there a different colour to the rest of the hedge! and blades of grass are scary. if he was human he would burst in to tears!!! but i cant moan too much as he's not 4 until september. but the spookieness only started a couple of months ago, and he's worked out how to buck now aswell, i know there only fun wey hey bucks (i think!)
My girl is awful: particularly scared of light coloured plants amidst dark coloured ones. Cut logs unless we're going to jump them; anything plastic, unless it's in her field when she's grazing in which case she's NOT scared, but then if I ride her in her field, she IS scared!!
The real scary scaries are holes in hedges, gateways, people lurking in their gardens behind hedges, dogs at gates even if they don't open their mouths, big vehicles on wide roads. For some reason big vehicles on narrow roads aren't half as awful???
The safest place to be would be in the middle of Salisbury Plain - as long as there's not pigeons/pheasants lurking which make us both jump!!!
She's on basic rations and as for a stronger bit that really isn't an option though it has crossed my mind. I guess I may have to accept it to a degree and hope it gets better, ironically walking down a road with traffic hurtling past us is no bother
