We have just got a pony back from loan and it has had a very interesting effect on our other horse. Pony is very whizzy whilst horse very laid back. However horse seems to be of a mind set that anything pony does I can do better. He has become so animated when ridden and is jumping like a stag! He watches pony being jumped in the school and then comes out and ups his game. Horse can be quite lazy showjumping and have poles but since pony came back hasn't touched anything! Do you think it could be a case of sibling rivalry and long may it last :)

Im not sure a horse could watch another horse go round jumps and decide whether they jumped well or not But, perhaps he thought it looked fun and so got excited .. hence the forward going horse when he was brought out.

eta - another idea could be that you are so used to riding the horse (i assume hes your majority ride) that now you have a whizzier pony to ride, your riding has changed which in turn changes how the original horse goes? does this make sense?

They are very funny together, they really do bicker like kids but like being with each other as long as one isn't getting more attention than the other. Horse is very used to seeing other horses out competing etc and it never effects him. I don't really care what causes the reaction its good to have.
