Background info is "This is a 5mth old QH foal:( The guy in the photo is a so called trainer, barefoot farrier!".

I will not name and shame on here, but will send links via pm to any interested. The poor horse is only 5 months old.

:( words fail me.

That woman needs the smile wiped off her face - big time. I hereby volunteer to do so.

Cannot actually type what I think here - would possibly get banned :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Where is this happening (or where DID it happen). It doesn't look like the UK to me, but I could be wrong - usually am. Yes, of course it is totally wrong, but unless it is in the UK is there anything that can be done about it? (I don't do facebook, otherwise I'd check.)

No, haven't seen the fb pictures.

I am not condoning this at all but you have to understand that things are done differently across the pond, that is just how things are, there is a different way of thinking and it is the norm for horses to be started much, much earlier.

Hopefully that colt has gone back in the paddock and stayed there, but he'll be a doddle to do anything with when the time comes.

I have a colt in my paddocks that according to his papers has just turned three, he's been here for six months, but I know for a fact that he had six months training and riding before he came here, so he will have started when he was two, if not before. Not everyone approves, not everyone disapproves, it is how it is here, and, apparently, in NZ.

Difference between a two year old and a 5 MONTH old! And it's not the US, it's NZ.

There was another one of these doing the rounds on facebook. A 9 mth old coloured being sold as broken to trotting harness. They wan't £950 for it. I bet they got it to as someone would have saved her.
As I prob would have if i had the room or money for another one

First off, well done for jumping on the oh must be America bandwagon. Nowhere is perfect. Never knew foals were driven in sulkies til I moved across the pond.

This is an absolute disgrace no matter where it is. There is nothing anyone can do really and I most certainly don't agree with it, but the horse is in too good a condition for action to be taken.

Teeri

Very upsetting photos.

It angers me that people feel the need to start work with horses so young.

If you want a horse to do stuff with, buy a 3/4yo. There is just no need to be putting so much pressure on such a young horse. Let babies be babies!

Teeri, apathy should be a criminal offence. The condition of the animal is by the by, it is being abused.

I can understand starting young, I sat on Stinky just before his 3rd birthday and he was a chunk of a cob. I did a lot with Stinky from 15 months to show him the world and get him used to everything, and believe it is good to start young and take a long time to do things.

However, with that foal he should be with mum and in the field and maybe a bit of teaching to be led, wear a headcollar and have a groom and feet done at the most.

Poor little bugger and these folks need education - they should not be near a horse let alone a foal. If they do have knowledge, then they make me sick and should be done for cruelty.

I couldn't care less what conditioning work people do with their foals and youngstock - it seems to my unexperienced eyes to not cause any harm.
But getting ON?! Sheesh, it's like that woman who flips new born babies round in yoga - give it a chance before you start working it!!!

Well said - abuse is abuse is abuse! A child that is outwardly full of health and vigour can still be terribly abused mentally and in physical ways that do not show. Do we ignore that then? NO we do not, nor should we ignore ANY form of animal abuse.

Good gosh I have a 'baby' who has just turned two - he is so immature (mentally and especially physically) that the idea of anyone sitting on him physically makes me feel sick. I can't believe anyone would do this to a five month old - his little frame is no where near ready!

 I second wiping the smile of the face of that woman. How can she think thats going to do his growing bones/; back and growth having a human on him at that age.

She should be utterly ashamed:mad:

Words fail me poor little chap such a cutee too , to nice natured for his own good , should buck her off :(

the way that rope is cutting into his/ her private area :(:(:(:(:( I hope to god that isnt a colt that rope would be cutting right into his sheath

Can't really say what I think as I'd probably get banned, whoever said she needs educating is right, preferably with a large & heavy object.

Have you read the comments under the Facebook photos? Some people are asking what's so bad about it.. And they name the people involved.

'Need educating?' But she's the partner of the aforementioned horse trainer/barefoot trimmer/equine therapist

Funnily enough I've found him advertised on another website - a website which proclaims the evils of vaccination/modern medicine... So vaccinating an animal is 'evil' yet it's fine to squish them into submission as babies  :(
