Sorry this is a rant but I am sick of horsey people who are nasty, nosey and downright rude.

I really want to give up, under a lot of strain just now, signed off work and all I seem to do is muck out. I really am sick of it.

I've 3 horses, all are ridden although 1 is on holiday and will never be sold. Then last year went to a breeders sale and bought 2 2yo colts, well I'd bought one that I'd had my eye on since he was born and then, thinking yikes I've just bought a colt, ended up buying another one to keep him company and also because mine are all mares. Not advised I promise.

Last winter the youngsters stayed out and were brought in mid Jan to a cattle court type pen. Worked fine.
Now I've brought them into their own stable but that means I've got 5 to muck out and take to the field etc. I'd really expected to have sold the bigger one of two youngsters but I've had no interest, plenty of calls, all very rude, arogant and nosey, like why should I give you my address and postcode the moment I answer the phone? Last week I had an email, man was to visit yesterday so he emailed on Friday for directions, called that night to say he'd be there around 1 and I'm still waiting

Why do people do this? It's sheer bad manners to keep people waiting if they've no intention of coming.

Really feel like jacking the horses in, can't be bothered to go and comepete because of the cliques and bitchiness that goes on and although I've got my own ground don't have an arena or anywhere I can work then.

Fed up of spending my day looking after the horses and its not just the winter blues been feeling like this for a while but it's all coming to a head.

Now my dilema is how to sell, obviously I care where they go so couldn't just call up a dealer but I feel for my own sanity I must reduce my numbers by at least by half soon.

Sorry for going on, just need to let off steam.

Sorry to hear you are so down about it all.

I think we all know what it feels like when all the work, the people, the money, the facilities etc get on top of you.

You will come through this I am sure. If you have had horses for a large part of you life then they do become a way of life. For me, things definitely do get on top of me (esp people!) but I would have such a gap in my life without my horse.
I would write a list of your problems/frustrations, and then ways in which you could deal with them. If not to resolve, then to make things manageable for you.
I hope things get better. Keep your pecker up and give yourself the odd treat.

Bad mannered people bug me too!! I once waited all day for someone to collect a horse, it was a freezing november day and i had my two daughters with me who were under 10 at the time, no phone call nothing.

Do you have a good friend who could deal with selling your horses for you? Its an awful time to sell though not many people are buying as no ones got any cash. Could you turn the youngsters out until spring/summer then sell? Maybe the market will have improved by then.

((hugs)) sounds like you are having a hard time of it.

I can definitely say that 2 are much easier than 3

I had 3 up until Feb last year and then went down to 2 and cant believe how much quicker it is to do everything.

I havent any advise on how to sell your young lad, but at least you have had some interest even if they have all been time wasters. I am sure the market will pick up after christmas if you can just hold on

Why should the bad mannered muppets stop you enjoying your hobby. Yes i know how you feel, 3 horses a full time job, a house being done up, a husband, a mum and dad and an apparant social life - i somethimes want to give up and sell the lot. But then what would i do? probably end up being an alcholic and back on the fags - which would lose me my wonderful husband !

Chin up - shoulders back - head high - youve got em, enjoy them!

Some people would give there right and left arm to have what you have got.

i have a solution .. ish.. put them all in cattle courts, deep litter and dig out in spring with a tractor! wish i had cattle courts i think it is the ideal for horses when in! as for the rude people who dont turn up .. rude but thats life. if i am trying to sell one i dont even fetch it in til they have arrived ... all good to catch and if they cant see past the dirt at this time of year then they dont really want to buy ,.... just joy ride as cheaper than hiring!! i will give full and clear directions, but never my postcode, and a mobile no for further directions should they get lost on route!! Keep smiling soon be spring!!

Thanks for your replies and suggestions.

Where we are it is pretty wet so I'd rather not leave the 3yos out in the rain, although there's plenyty of natural shelter I wouldn't want to put rugs on them in case they got caught on something. They lost quite a lot of weight before I brought them in last year so with planning to sell couldn't put them back out to lose condition.
The problem is also people are now expecting them as 3yos to be broken, I don't have the experience or inclination to even start as well as not having facilties. :-(
The cattle courts aren't available this year (filled with cattle instead)!
5 to muck out before work is just a killer, travel over an 1hr to work each way then back to horses getting them in from the fields in the dark, I can't think of any way to solve this problem. I'm on my own yard with no one else to help.

Also I've asked a few friends to put the word out I'm selling or if they could sell but they are trying to cut their numbers down and nothing seems to be shifting.

could you not advertise or put the word out for a sharer? I have 2 horses and 2 ponies (plus 2 young children). I could not have all the horses with out the help mentally and financally. Only if its for the short term?
