Currently im trying to sell one of my mares who is a sweet little TB who i bought to event next season but recently lost my job and am on such a tight budget i can only afford to keep one.
This little mare is sweet as anything, easy to do in all ways, and lovely to ride. Very laidback , very un TB, was professionally schooled and has beautiful extravagant paces on the flat, and a nice jump. She's by no means perfect, there's work to be done she's only 5 and she's got a lot to learn, like any other young horse, but she's willing and she's safe as houses. Truly looks after any rider on her.
She's not got a big price tag and she's proven herself out at unaff comps and she's hunted.
She's an honest horse with the potential for a decent career.
And yet....all i get is timewaster after timewaster. So far I've had 2 sets of complete novices who claim they are looking for a genuine allrounder to compete, they've read the advert, they've read she's a 5yr TB, and yet one girl came from a trekking centre (hadnt ever ridden in an arena before) she yanked my mare in the mouth, and booted her like she was an ageing cob. Of course the mare threw her head up and was so upset and confused by this novice's aids she just trotted round the arena (not at any fast pace i might add) but trotted round with her head raised and wouldnt stop.
Another was a gentleman who wanted something to hack and do local shows with, he'd never ridden before, my mare is a fine tb and only 15.2, this man was well over 6ft and heavy build. (I told him to just go home)
I have people who come ride her and offer less than half of the asking price hoping im desperate to sell and they'll get a bargain.
Finally I decided to sell through professionals as i naiively thought they might have a client base who are serious about buying honest decent horses and yet all i hear from these people is "Oh she's a TB, no good im afraid, nobody wants TB's." Nobody wants TB's? This trend is driving me mad. At the top of our sport all we see is part or full TB's. Why do the people at lower levels turn their noses at them like they are part Blackpool donkey?
I hear people asking where are all the "nice" horses? Well where are all the serious buyers?!
Sorry I just had to get this off my chest, its been eating away at me since the last set of people that came to see me my mare and once again left me disappointed that i had wasted my, and my little horses time.
