I have just read this story, regarding a horse being drowned at the Appleby Fair...

It really is so sad, what a waste of the poor , terrified animal's life....all for the sake of a pathetic, failed display of macho bravery.

I can't help looking at the poor beast and picturing my ponio......

story and pics here

I replied to the post about this in lasted news, but Ill reply here aswell as Im so angry about this.
Tradition my arse!!
Who can we write to or get a petition done to stop this happening again?

Like I said in latest news, if that had been a person drowning or being drowned some one would be up for murder or man slaughter, but coz its and animal, nothing will be done!

I read that too in latest news.. sickening isnt it. I keep thinking the same thing about my girl..
That poor horse looked so very young aswell.. I hope they catch that bloke and lock him away!

its disgusting! The man should be locked away for life for doing that! Thats not going to happen though is it! This poor horsey is at least free of a bad owner in horsey heaven! RIP poor little pony! Only looked vey young too!

I would love to take that chap to water and make him go under water for lets say... ummm.... a good 15 mins without catching his breath!!!!

Everyone should write to the Eden councillor and Appleby fair chairman at this email ella.langan@eden.gov.uk

She was quoted in the mail as saying the horse dunking is 'tradition' and that the fair will continue as is.

I think the rspca and should have acted sooner. Why was a young, obviously frightened horse allowed to be led to the water with a rope over its nostrils stopping its breathing????

It was a pitiful, disgraceful & totally unnecessary waste of a horse's life! No wonder the stupid g*t ran, he'd have probably been lynched otherwise!

We must hope however that not all 'gypsies' are tarred with the same brush here & should remember that the majority of true 'gypsies' know how to handle & treat horses & would be unlikely to have attempted anything so stupid!
I come from old Wiltshire stock (country bumpkins! lol) & the difference between real gypsies & common 'travellers' was known a hundred years ago!
Sadly, these days, the 'travellers' outnumber the real gypsies by a fair majority, which is one of the reasons I tend to avoid these fairs etc.

It must have broken your heart to see the pics BLeC, as it would MD's, so huggle your lovely colored boy & cry a few tears into his mane, he'll understand!
I won't be letting MD see the pics, much too distressing for her I think!

RIP little coloured pony! xx

Absolutely horrific! I am horrified that this still continues in this day and age. What on earth are they thinking by letting these events continue?????

Feel so sad for that poor little horse.

Going out on a controversial limb here, but pikeys should not have horses!!!!!

I would very much hope that the RSPCA bring the person that committed this inhumane act to justice before the courts and that they are banned from ever owning or handling a horse for the rest of their life. There where pictures in the national papers so it should be easy for the travelling community to identify the person(s) concerned.
