As above - are there any negative side effects? I seem to remember reading something on here a while ago about it affecting behaviour. I put my horse on garlic around 2 weeks ago to tempt him to eat his feed, but he has been more tense lately. Just wondering if that could be linked to the garlic?

A big sloppy garlicy kiss after dinner???????????? The horse does it too

Thanks folks - lol at the garlic breath! I had a parents evening last night but had time to nip to the stables first, made his feed without thinking and then no matter how many times I washed my hands I couldn't get rid of the garlic smell - the parents must've thought I don't wash!

When we fed Brooklyn garlic she produced the STINKIEST garlic farts ever. It was quite impressively disgusting. I never noticed her garlic breath, but maybe that's because it faded into insignificance beside the noxious pong from the other end....

Had one who sweated like hell for some reason, on garlic....
Didn't have a problem with flies though!

He'd sweat even on a cold day, without rugs,so we had to stop giving it to him.

i've jst started giving it to my boy. reasons being, he had the snots and a cough before xmas. nothing serious, jst for a day or two and garlic can help keep the airways clear. plus also for fly repellant come summer. if fed in large doses it can cause varying degrees of anaemia. but if u feed as recommended, then shud be no probs. i adore garlic myself and eat loads, so we must stink!!!

Smelly owners- somebody walked into work the other day and said "my god this office stinks of garlic!"....maybe don't make feeds up before work!

I had a blood test done one my horse a few months ago and found out that he has a low red cell count. I did a bit of research and found that garlic can reduce red blood cells, so I have cut it out for my horse (after feeding it for years) as with a dodgy heart, he needs all the red cells he can get!
