I went to a country show yesterday and there was a demonstration of side saddle. I found it very interesting but to be honest it did'nt look very comfortable. Has anyone on here tried it. The lady on the horse seemed very confident and even jumped some pretty high jumps. The problem she seemed to have was with halting the horse after the jump. She was leaning backwards so far it looked a bit dangerous. She did say that she was having issues with the brakes. I'm not being critical just wonder what other people have experienced and if they enjoyed it or otherwise.

Have tried a few years ago, perversely my bad back prefers astride though. Its very secure but worth investing in a few lessons with a good instructor as it is so easy to sit wrong, lead with your right shoulder or collapse your left hip then everything becomes unbalanced for you and the horse. Brakes work as normal!

I rode side saddle a lot at one time it's great fun and not uncomfortable at all, you feel very secure.

Would love to give it a go, but having spent ages a couple of years ago trying to find someone near me where I could have a lesson and getting absolutely nowhere I've now given up the idea. The SSA were totally useless and could only put me in touch with their local rep who sent an email saying she'd contact me properly at a later date and then never did. I'm sure there are some lovely SS people out there, just finding them is a bit difficult.
