Hi!

I'm new here, although I have been lurking for a while!

I have recently bought my first side saddle and I'd really like to start some showing, and maybe in the future some working hunter classes! I'm pretty novice at this side saddle lark so it would be great to speak to someone else who does it and has more experience than me! So is anyone out there...?

Also - can anyone recommend a book about side saddle to buy? There are quite a few to choose from but I assume some are better than others...

Thanks
H

I've only done side saddle once at a taster evening at Urchinwood Manor but it was fab and i'd love to have another go. How about you contact the sidesaddle association for recomendations, they we're very helpful when I e-mailed them before.

I used to do side saddle. I rode in a Champion and Wilton.

Side saddle classes are usually ridden in a double bridle/pelham and I would recommend getting lessons rather than learning on an inexperienced horse.

Horses take to the side saddle generally very well, start as if you are backing for the first time. Some horses can object to the balance strap at the back, it can act like a bucking strap.

Your pelvis needs to remain square with the horse's shoulders, whilst having your right leg on the same side as the left.

Agree with Ezme, contact your local side saddle association.
