I ave always wanted to learn side saddle as it looks so eligant, I damaged my knee a couple of years ago and I am now back to riding, but I have been told side saddle may take the pressure of my knee (right knee) as it would be over the top, even if they is not true I would be very interested in learning, just wanted to know if any one rode side saddle and could tell me about it and if it's difficult, also I will be moving to the Carlisle area in 12 month so would be in that area if any one knows of a person who teach side saddle or could help me :)
Thank you !

I had my first ever side-saddle lesson in the summer. Its one of those things that I had always wanted to try. I have been riding for over 40yrs and I personally found it hard work. you really do have to be fit and have very good core muscles. I am not sure if it will help your knee but you dont just put your leg over the front you need to point your toe down as well, I found that my right bum cheek hurt like hell because of this as I was doing this.:) I will say I thoroughly enjoyed it and have been getting myself fitter for some more lessons.

I've just started side saddle, have had 3 lessons now (next one on Friday) but i love it, my friend started earlier this year and it was watching her that encouraged me.
I've just joined side saddle association, try the website it has loads of info about instructors.
My instructor is fab which i think helps, she teaches at a local RS.
Think i've posted on here after my lessons, not sure how to find them though lol
Oh yes and totally agree with Spottybotty its very hard work

Suggest you get in touch with the Side Saddle Association, who will be pleased to provide you with a list of qualified side saddle instructors near you.

If you're a horse owner, you'd probably find it easier to have some lessons on a side saddle schoolmaster first to get your balance and seat sorted before you introduce your own horse to it.

Be warned...it's addictive :)
