Has anyone any experience of medicating an active sidebone?

He's currently on box rest, which is settling the forming sidebone down, but slowly he's now sound in walk, but intermitttently unlevel in trot. I was wondering if a steroid injection would help settle it quicker.....

Any thoughts?

My other thought would be to turn him away for the winter, without shoes and let the whole thing settle down itself, given that it was aggravated initially by a change of foot balance.

Side bone is ossification of the lateral or medial ungular cartilage usually caused through poor foot balance, but can also be secondary to an injury. Remedy is good foot balance, rest and time. Steroids can't do anything for it.
