Just reading an article in 'your horse' on side saddle - and wondering how you get on (mount)??

Do you get on the usual way and then swing your leg back over the horses head? Seems a little risky if so?

:)

The lady I know uses a mounting block and just cocks her leg over and then rearranges herself once on......never seen it done from the ground though!

You get on astride and then rearrange yourself...

...or you get a special side saddle leg up, I can't find any pics online, but basically you stand facing the horses head and step your left foot into your Gentleman Helper's hands (while Gentleman Helper number 2 holds your horse), he boosts you up and you step your right leg through and up as you go up to end up in the saddle in the correct position. Very tricky and you only see it done properly at things like the Rider of the Year Ride-Off at the National Side Saddle Show. Mainly because that's the only place where there's loads of Gentleman Helpers hanging around waiting to help :)
