Well the big man is back home with us.
We went and fetched him from hospital on saturday.
The vet was pleased with him, he's had his joint injected with acid and steriods and their farrier has been out to him. He now has what look like gel wedges in his shoes - he looks like he's wearing high heels and he can't walk in them yet thats for sure!
The vet also decided he could go into a small paddock as of today rather than 6 weeks full box rest. Phew!
The vet doesn't want to discuss him being pts yet as he feels there are things we might be able to do. Apparently other than that foot he's in fantastic shape (they've given him a full MOT) and that has made the vet a tad more optimisitic.
So now we wait and see and pray rather a lot. If this doesn't work there may be an option to sever the nerves into his coffin joint which would mean he doesn't feel the joint but again its a "may" rather than a definite option.
Either way his jumping days are totally over and he'll never do road work again. But the vet is VERY cautiously saying he might be ok for hacking, schooling and dressage IF we can get him sound now.
Its a very big IF but maybe with enough good vibes and a few prayers along the way we might just be able to get my baby boy sound enough to be able to do something.

That's sounding more positive than your previous post, which is really encouraging. He'll be glad to be out and about rather than stuck in his stable. I will keep everything crossed for both of you that he does come sound now so that he can at least potter about and have a bit of fun xx

Been there with leg problems and feet.....Know how you feel with what your going through,just go with your vet,and as you say on the plus side he is healthy all round......Lot's of Luck and well done you at giving him a chance.

Keeping fingers crossed. Gel pads can work miracles. Without mine is noticeably lame, however with them he can hack and do some light dressage work. Sending big hugs.
