So, she is off on her near-fore when trotted on a circle. :(

Unless there is a miraculous recovery overnight, I'm calling the Vet and/or the farrier in the morning. This on-off lameness has been going on for far too long now.

Thanks for the get well wishes. :)

I've had a few thoughts.

The 'is she, isn't she?' lameness is similar to when her abscess was building up before. The farrier has pincer tested that hoof recently, but then two vets and the farrier couldn't get a reaction from the last abscess until she was hopping lame.

The next thought is that the neighbours are doing alot of work with heavy diggers, plus we've had shooters near by, so she could have tweaked something and then re-tweaked it.

It's also the hoof that had the very deep injury. Might have to x-ray, just to discount that from the mix.

There's no wound, no heat, she's forward going (not reluctant to move) but she's not 'right'.

Flipping mare, she knows that I'll never replace her in a month of Sundays and I've told her to look after herself so many times. :(

I have a pony 'not right' on and off...turns out to be mild arthritic changes in a front fetlock. Trying a cortisone injection on Wed. I hope you get to the bottom of your horses problem...its very frustrating.

I have the same problem with one of my horses. I hope your horse gets better soon. My horse had had two weeks off and looks a lot better, she is going to have another week off and I'll see how she is.
Vet and farrier don't know what's wrong, if it continues we'll be going down the route of nerve blocks and xrays.

EB1 and K1975, I hope that your horses are better soon.

The vet came to see my mare this afternoon and she is coming up with a plan to sort the problem out. Interestingly, she thinks that it may be related to the old deep injury.

Quick update.

Mare looking a bit worse today. I'm sorting out for the Vet and the Farrier to come and see her together as it really does seem to stem from the old hoof injury. Hopefully with everyone working together, we can get it sorted.

I feel so guilty because in the back of my mind I always thought that the injury was worse than it appeared. I now wish that I'd made alot more fuss.

Just a little sob and vent. :(

She had been doing so well and looking sounder each day... but today she looks lamer. So I'll be getting the vet back tomorrow (as it's not an emergency).

That's so true. I feel so guilty about the whole thing.

Hopefully everyone who reads this will learn from my mistake. If you feel in your gut that your horse is not right, don't tell yourself that you are being silly. Listen to your gut. She's had three vets and one farrier look at her and it turns out, unfortunately, that I was right. I should have pressed for a fourth vet (or second farrier) sooner.

Hey dont beat yourself up, you are pushing, at the end of the day you had her checked by the pros, the fact it didnt all add up made you push a bit harder.
Well done you for saying sorry its still not right, re-examine and do more !

When my horse was abit off I had shiatsu done on her and she was fine afterwards and I now have it done on her every few months as the practitioner can give her a full body review and will let me know where shes been messing around, it also helps with circulatory problems, I even had it myself when I ahd been in agony with my back for weeks, and after one session I felt so much better, I could even see how my body was 'rebooting' itself, so would definatly give it a try its not too expensive and can help hugely :)

I now have a good team together. Brilliant Vet that really listened to me when she came to see the mare and a new farrier who sounds very positive about it. I've been to the Vet's today to get some more bute to keep her comfy and to give an update on how she's doing. Plus we've arranged a group diagnosis/investigation session on friday.

GZ, I think that she (the mare) would love a massage (or similar) when this is all over. I've always found something like that wonderful after I've been a bit wonky.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

diamonds gone lame came back weekend away i think its suspensory again. ice booting and leg ice and radiol muscle liniment and hosing :(

I'm not doing very well with my updates, I need to post about my cat too. Sorry for the delay.

Anyway, my mare is being poulticed at the moment. Just as we were about to send her off for x-rays, an abscess burst out of her coronet band. :( It's being a bit of a pain to get rid of, but I'm just keeping going and the mare is being an absolute darling about the whole thing. She's about 95% sound which is so much better than before. I'm sure that the last little bit of lameness will go once the blasted abscess is sorted.

The new farrier is brilliant and he and the vet worked really well together. He's due back on the 29th July. Her hooves are much better and I learnt so much from him in the three hours that he was here. I'm still really cross with myself for not sacking the old farrier earlier.

DL, I hope that your horse is well again soon.

ETA. Link to my post after the Vet and new Farrier looked at my mare together. They both say that once the abscess goes and she's sound, I can start to bring her back into work again. All in all, she'll have had a year off work (starting with the original injury).
