Kissing Spine - Are there (or can there be) any visible signs on the horse that suggests they have it?

I'm talking lumps etc....Just curious

my horse didn't have any signs like lumps and bumps. Had lots of lameness work ups and treatment then asked for xray of back and saw the problem. Then he had full bone scan and surgery.

My horse didn't have any bumps or lumps but was very tender to touch in the saddle area and flinched when I put the saddle on her, she also used to back away from my leg and rear, she suffered from intermittent lameness when lunged or ridden on a circle, xrays were taken and showed signs of kissing spine.

My mare showed no visible signs of her kissing spine allthough she does now after her op!!!

Unwillingness to go forward ( constantly) and bucking in trot to canter transistions. Other than that no tenderness over the back. Really realised that something was not right when she developed a bilateral lameness. Sent her to veterinary clinic with specific instructions to xray her back and kissing spine was diagnosed. 7 impinging vertabrae.

8 months after her op I am hacking her out again in walk and starting to introduce trot under saddle. On the lunge she is upto a full workout now including, cantering, pole work and small jumps.

I have heard of lumps (an abcess), but the horse was too far gone to save. Look out for the horse being uncomfortable, exploding, cold backed, random kicking out, brushing, reaction if he make contact along the spine (the vet who diagonsed him poked him gently along the back with a pen, and h reacted on the sore bits).
