i'm going to build some stables with a pen at the front of each one for the horse's to come out into if they want, what do you think is the best topping for the pen's, i have heavy feathered gypsy cobs and my aim is to keep them from wet and muddy conditions so i'm looking for something that stay's as dry as pos.

What about putting an interlocking rubber matting system down? it will probably be cheaper and easier to maintain. Or you could lay a granulistic floor - although have no experience of it externally before.
